Recently on the Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert interviews Bart Ehrman, writer of Jesus, Interrupted. Colbert pretty much bashed the guy completely. Here is the link. Thoughts?

Again, anything and everything Colbert does while in character isn't mean to be taken seriously. Colbert the person =/= Colbert the character.

I don't watch The Colber Report frequently, but he certainly seemed sarcastic. :?

Yeah, pretty much. Stephen Colbert's actions while in character as the host of the Colbert Report should never, ever be taken seriously. He purposely tries to act like a right-wing conservative on his show when he isn't; that's his whole thing.

Anyone who thinks Colbert is ever serious should be taken to a firing line and executed.

the real steven colbert is a liberal, i mean just look at how he ownd bush that one time ( youtube it) but the steven colbert of the colbert report is a conservative. when thinking of the show , john stewart and colbert said " itll be like the o reily factor... but with us" you gotta be pretty dense to not see all the jokes me makes about religion and conservative / republicans on the show... not to mention that john steward cowrites the colbert report stuff... thinking colbert actually is conservative religious person would be like reading the adventures of huckleberry finn, and thinking its just a racist kids novel, instead of a satire bashing the way while people behaved back then.. you gotta look deeper

Eh, I think he almost started getting serious at one point and I do believe underneath all the jokes he believed what he was saying, he is a devout Catholic after all and the other guy did a pretty poor job of defending his points.

the only time colbert goes out of character on the show, is when he gets upset or frustrated or scared and says " snap out of it colbert "( and pronounces the T)

Once again, your mixing up the person with the character. The guy conducting the interview isn't a Catholic. The guy conducting the interview is the product of a comedy writing staff... a staff that includes the man who protrays the character, and that man happens to be Catholic.

He didn't really get owned. It just seems that he's not much of a debater. What is the son of a duck? That that didn't apply at all, but the crowd was on Colbert's side so they cheered anyways.

Colbert pretty much pokes fun at all the guests that he doesn't agree with.

I do actually get a sense that during the interview that a bit of the real Colbert was let out. I think he felt that this guy was poorlyarguing points that he didnt agree with and Colbert pounced. 95% of the time he is his charactor but to say that he just completly leaves his own beliefs and biases at the door and doesn't bring them on air sometimes is Naive. I don't think he was exactly being a defender of christianity but the man arguing for his but did such a poor job and his logic seemed so fragmented that for him to go into a topic so controversial with such a flimsy support makes him look like an idiot. And I don't think Colbert likes idiots.
