Recently on the Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert interviews Bart Ehrman, writer of Jesus, Interrupted. Colbert pretty much bashed the guy completely. Here is the link. Thoughts?

You do realize he is a devout Catholic right? He is also a Sunday school teacher.[QUOTE="Oleg_Huzwog"]
Anything and everything Colbert does while in character isn't meant to be taken seriously, dude.

Again, anything and everything Colbert does while in character isn't mean to be taken seriously. Colbert the person =/= Colbert the character.
Another stunning validation of Poe's Law?I don't watch The Colber Report frequently, but he certainly seemed sarcastic. :?

Yeah, pretty much. Stephen Colbert's actions while in character as the host of the Colbert Report should never, ever be taken seriously. He purposely tries to act like a right-wing conservative on his show when he isn't; that's his whole thing.
hey r u a christian..... :)im-180I've been trying to get mindstorm to admit to me that he's secretly a Satanist but to no avail.

But he convinced me jesus was an elaphant.:(Well that's a bit harsh...Anyone who thinks Colbert is ever serious should be taken to a firing line and executed.

the only time colbert goes out of character on the show, is when he gets upset or frustrated or scared and says " snap out of it colbert "( and pronounces the T) nimatoad2000You should watch the one where he just breaks down laughing on the daily show when they were doing a thing the prince Charles gay scandel, it's hilarious.
Yeah dude is doing a parody... The problem with this belief is... he is actually a devout Catholic... "Practicing", anyway; he's also a self-described Democrat, demonstrating that the on-air personality he presents is not, you know, him...[QUOTE="duxup"][QUOTE="Oleg_Huzwog"]

Once again, your mixing up the person with the character. The guy conducting the interview isn't a Catholic. The guy conducting the interview is the product of a comedy writing staff... a staff that includes the man who protrays the character, and that man happens to be Catholic.

Yeah....according to this article, he is a Catholic, and teaches Sunday school occasionally.
Mindstorm, The Colbert Report is pure satire. Stephen Colbert makes fun of conservatives and christian fundies on his show by acting like them.
He didn't really get owned. It just seems that he's not much of a debater. What is the son of a duck? That that didn't apply at all, but the crowd was on Colbert's side so they cheered anyways.
Colbert pretty much pokes fun at all the guests that he doesn't agree with.
I see him more as a Devil's Advocate sorta guy.He didn't really get owned. It just seems that he's not much of a debater. What is the son of a duck? That that didn't apply at all, but the crowd was on Colbert's side so they cheered anyways.

I do actually get a sense that during the interview that a bit of the real Colbert was let out. I think he felt that this guy was poorlyarguing points that he didnt agree with and Colbert pounced. 95% of the time he is his charactor but to say that he just completly leaves his own beliefs and biases at the door and doesn't bring them on air sometimes is Naive. I don't think he was exactly being a defender of christianity but the man arguing for his but did such a poor job and his logic seemed so fragmented that for him to go into a topic so controversial with such a flimsy support makes him look like an idiot. And I don't think Colbert likes idiots.
