[QUOTE="bean-with-bacon"] Then you clearly know very little about the man. -Sun_Tzu-
I know a fair bit. Like I said, i'm a fan of his. However the "pinnacle of intellectualism" devalues the genius of many who became before who him, many, that I might add, that were probably more intelligent than he is. I am sure Hawking himself knows he's not the most intelligent man to ever live, not even the most intelligent man who is famous for being intelligent. After all, past all the well known scientists, philosophists and writers, we don't know much of the intelligence of millions of others who have existed.
"I don't know anything about him, but I know he's always been ill, and isn't he in his 50s now? Or his 40s?"
Late sixties.
I never said he was smarter than those before him, I'm just saying that he is at least as smart as the great intellectuals before him, and he deserves to be categorized with the great scientists, philosophers, and writers of years past.Categorised with the great scientists sure. I don't know much of his philosophy or writing but I doubt it matches the brilliance of Kant or Shakespeare, you know what I mean?
Also, you have no real basis on which to say that "he is at least as smart as the great intellectuals before him".
