[QUOTE="chessmaster1989"]We should send him a "Get Well Soon" card! :P But, in all seriousness, that's sad news :(.

I think he'd appreciate a "Get well relatively soon" card more. Too bad about him, I hope he pulls through. Most of the stuff he worked with is pure theory at the moment but that's doesn't make it any less important.

Seeing how Hawking has the highest IQ in the world that does make him the smartest person on the planet currently.lucky326

Actually, he doesn't.

She has the highest recorded IQ for a living person. Not that there can't be anyone higher than her. Not that having the highest IQ makes you the most intelligent person.

Don't know if I would go that far, haha.

BeepBoop16

just so you know stephen hawking is the most intelligent man on the planet :|

Define "intelligent" and then present me an argument as to why this man is the "most intelligent" and we'll discuss.

Ok he's the best mathematician, he may suck at rounders but he could spin circles around your binomial distribution.

Yes, IQ is a very vague way to asses ones mind and intelligence... the mind is much more complex to just rate by a number

Ok he's the best mathematician, he may suck at rounders but he could spin circles around your binomial distribution.

"Grigori Yakovlevich Perelman. . . is a Russian mathematician who has made landmark contributions to Riemannian geometry and geometric topology. In particular, he proved Thurston's geometrization conjecture. This solves in the affirmative the famous Poincaré conjecture, posed in 1904 and regarded as one of the most important and difficult open problems in mathematics until it was solved.

In August 2006, Perelman was awarded the Fields Medal for "his contributions to geometry and his revolutionary insights into the analytical and geometric structure of the Ricci flow". Perelman declined to accept the award or to appear at the congress.

On 22 December 2006, the journal Science recognized Perelman's proof of the Poincaré Conjecture as the scientific "Breakthrough of the Year," the first such recognition in the area of mathematics."

Not that's he's the "best mathematician" alive either. I'm merely pointing out that alot of people in this thread are pulling statements out of their anus.

"One of the most important man alive", my point is shown again and again. The media has made him into a huge phenomonen, nobody seems to have too much trouble in exaggerating his status. Shows what kind of mind control the media has over people, you don't even question what he actually is or has done. Media points, says "Smart guy", everyone follows.

I already know what he has done as I mentioned in my opening post.

His Hawking radiation will protect us from the black holes created by the LHC. The miniature black holes are only suppose to last for millionths of a second before Hawking Radiation takes them away.

Or maybe we have looked at who he is and what he has done and came to the same conclusion as those in the media. The media acknowledging the man's intelligence and influence shouldn't take away from the credit the man is due.

Don't worry there's no risk of the LHC creating black holes. They use it to make chocolate oranges. Chocolate in one side, orange in the other. Flip the switch and BAM! You have yourself a chocolate orange :) What else would they be using the LHC for? Duh... :P

Yeah I read about this this morning. I'm sure there will be many more brilliant ideas coming from his mind in the years to come.
