I remember back in the 80's and 90's everyone had a big ass stereo they were proud of. These days it seems everyone I know just substitutes a PC at home with a decent sound system. Myself and a few other have rocking PC sound systems. I certainly don't see the need for a stereo anymore, but what about you people? Is a stereo as a separate appliance in the home dead as an idea? And I'm NOT talking about cars, that's a completely different environment.

I recently sold my stereo purchased in 1986. It was a nice Kenwood system but I do appreciate more room and the PC stereo with 5.1, etc does the job well enough. Home theater systems sound rather nice these days as well, but there is certainly a quality with older systems that will never be replaced by modern technology....but Im not into it enough to miss it enough to lose any sleep over it.

I have an awesome sound system for my TV, but it goes through a receiver so I can still use it for radio, CDs, whatever. And I totally missed that you we're comparing stereos to PCs haha. Anyway I have a laptop, so it doesn't get it's own sound system.

Why only a few people have rocking sound systems? I have one too.

I'd rather have a nice PC than a nice sound system because I only listen to music in my truck anyways.

PC for sure, surround sound stereo would be nice for gaming as well as music.
