That's not a DJ

that's some pawn hired to play music...a real DJ understands the art of music.
Toriko42

A DJ also gets paid to move the crowd. Nobody wants to listen to Rush at a dance party besides a few people...

Stuff like that is part of why I'm just going to skip out on prom this year when I'm a senior. It's not about the prom, it's about the anti-prom parties.

[QUOTE="ps3wizard45"][QUOTE="The_Mac_Daddy"]Tom Sawyer would be a terrible song at a dance. It's cool for them to play at a concert... but in a club or a dance, that is a terrible song to dance to. I can understand the DJ for not playing it. And van halen and iron maiden? Wtf? You don't play that kind of stuff at a dance like that........ps3wizard45

if they danced to it in the 80s (they had to not much of an alternative ) they could dance to it know !

First off, dance styles changed. You won't see kids today busting out a waltz at a prom. Secondly, they danced to different stuff in the 80's... not rock music like that.

dont tell me they didnt cuz they did (parents full prom was all iron maiden themed BTW )

The point is, today they aren't going to play a random song from the 80's by a rock band like that. IF they play older throw back songs, it would be a very very very popular song from that time period that is still a song you can dance to today. Possibly a very popular michael jackson song, or vanilla ice's "ice ice baby".. or "the train" by quad city dj's from the 90's. Stuff like that. Not a song by Rush...

ya you just have to prepare yourself and if you go with a girl then who the flip cares about the music. you want the songs where you can dance with her aka slow or techno

I will go to my Senior prom this upcoming year though.

Edit- Thats why I take my MP3 everywhere too. I really hate most of the music I hear on the radio and in stores and such because its nothing I listen to

You didnt answer the question... you think teens in high school want to stand around listening to music from the 80's they dont know anything about at their prom? DJ did the right thing, his job is to get the crowd dancing and having a good time.

Dude. No one wants to dance to that.

And everyone wants to dance to Miley Cyrus?

Seriously, what a jerk. Get out of the 80s wtf?! You shoulda socked him in the face on the spot. The 80s produced the greatest music in history imo, and I'll never believe otherwise.

I guess the DJ had the right to turn down your requests, but there was definitely no reason to be rude about it.

Most of those kids don't want to hear Rush, Iron Maiden, or The Doors, and by most I mean almost all of them don't want to hear those bands. It would just be strange and awkward to hear any of that played at a prom. I never went to dances when I was in school, they just didn't seem like fun to me. I wasn't allowed to either in my later years there because I got into a lot of trouble in school.

Well...my prom kinda sucked...Not the entire night just the actual prom itself. After that I loved every single moment of after prom, actually my after prom lasted the whole weekend. Full weekend of constant partying...it was great.

The prom itself sucked though cuz it was at a lame place and me and my date got into kind of a fight which really brought the mood down. Oddly enough she was at all the same after prom parties I was at, and ended up getting so trashed she ran around topless or something.

You don't dance to club music either, you bounce up and down :?

I refused to go to my prom, **** music, didn't like the whole idea of either, and the girl that I really like felt the same way about it and there was no way I would go with anyone except her if I had to go, so I didn't go. :)

Most DJ's think they know there stuff, they don't. Don't get to wound up over it, and as for me I'm not going to spend 250 pounds odd on a suit, instead I'm spending 250 pounds on a iPhone or something ;) If not alot of albums :)
