I just had to share this with some strangers... :)

Anyway, my best friend called me and told me the shocking news today (kinda funny, because I "felt" something was wrong. Just like they show in the movies. I had been having a strange feeling). He was at his wife's house (they are seperated) waiting on her. His 23 year old, slightlydisabled stepson was also there. He was in a bedroom in the back of the house when he heard loud voices. The would-be crooks put a gun to his stepsons head while he was out on the patio and forced him inside.

At first, my friend thought his other stepson must have stopped by and that they were just talking loud. But quickly, he realized what was going on. The thieves did not know he was there. He quietly called the cops on his cell phone, but then he heard one of the robbers coming towards the bedrooms. He kicked his phone under the bed, and got in under the sheets to pretend he was asleep.

Now, my best friend is about 6 foot, 4 inches tall. And about 240 pounds. Very athletic, and again, they did not expect him. He could have gotten this guy. But he did not know how many people were inside, plus they may have shot his stepson and ran. So he did the right thing. I was just arguing herelast week that gun ownership can't help you if someone is intent on causing you harm. This is almost a textbook example. There was no time for his stepson to respond, and it was safer for everyone if my friend just let them get him.

So, the bad guy puts a gun to my friends head. Pulls back the hammer and makes my friend get out of the bed and puts the sheet over his head. He pistol whips him a bit, throws him to the floor, then then makes him crawl to the living room with the others, kicking him along the way. By this time they see they are not going to get what they were looking for; his OTHER stepson.

One of the guys says "kill them and let's go!" Another says "No time! Let's just leave". Don't know if someone was watching out and saw police lights in the distance or what, but they start leaving in pairs. The last one was not so lucky. He got to the driveway, and cops shot him. My friend comes out the house, and of course the cops are edgy, trying to make sure he was not one of the robbers. They were a little rough with him, but a guy we went to high school withis an officer on that force. He told the other officers "I know him", and helped my friend off the ground.

Turns out there were about 5 or 6 involved. They one that was shot snitched (they always do), and they caught 3 others. They are still looking for 1 or 2 more. The one that was shot died on the operating table.

Thank God his wife was late coming home with their 5 year old daughter, and no one (beside the crook) were seriously hurt.

This is nuts, though! Have any of you ever dealt with anything like this?

Oh, I didnt add that part. They got away with two wallets, his stepsons cell phone, and a cheap 32 inch LCD TV. My friend had almost $200 dollars in his wallet.

A guy found my friends wallet in his yard a far distance from the crime. The cops have it in evidence now. The money was gone of course. They should be returning it to him soon.

Oh yeah, speaking of stupid, the used the cell phone to make calls. The police are contacting everyone that the "perps" called.

Crooks are stupid. Who doesn't know that cell phones are traceable?

No, he could have shot one though. The one that came into the bedroom. The others would have likely shot his stepson, and came "blazing" for him. They were heavily armed.

Thanks for reading.

Yeah, he died after snitching. He was shot in the thigh and the stomach. I guess he must have lost too much blood before they could get him to the hospital.

So you are right he should not have in that situation. But not all situations are like that and if guns were not legal I bet they still would have had them And yes I have been in a few scary situations, the worst probably being when someone with a grudge lit the house i was living in on fire.

Probably, but with the hell is your friend doing though? 6 heavily armed men to rob a house doesn't sound very plausible.

Everyone, from what it appears. But my friend did not know for sure at the time, of course. In fact, I forgot to mention, they also left behind a backpack with a shotgun in it.

I asked the same thing, to be honest. "What the hell did they think they were going to find?!?"

As far as anyone can guess, his other stepson (who does not even "officially" live there anymore. He is a bad seed.) is either selling drugs or was lying about selling drugs and was overheard talking about it. They would have thought he still lived there, but in fact, he has been staying with some girl.

The robbers were asking the "good stepson" "where is the safe?!?" when my friend heard them yelling from the other room.

My friend was just there to pick up his daughter for visitation. He is a mailman.

This is why you need an ADP/Brinks alarm system with a panic button in every room, 2 Rottweilers or Rhodesian Ridgebacks, a .357 Magnum hand cannon, a kevlar vest, and a live grenade, pull the pin with your teeth and walk out with it in one hand and gun in the other, then spit out the pin and say "If you drop me, then everybody dies. Now let my family go, and I will let you pieces of s*** walk out of here in one piece, no strings attached, just let them go and you can walk out of here." Then Lifetime will contact you to make a movie about the incident :P

They are from Rhodesia (present-day Zimbabwe) and were used to hunt lions, very loyal dogs, protective of their pack leader and would give their lives trying to protect them if things went south. They have a strip of fur that grows along their spine, this strip grows against the grain of the rest of the fur, so it is like a little ridge, hence the ridgeback. My favorite dog, can't wait to have a house and get a couple!!!

no "cool story bro?" Honestly, I'm shocked, OT, shocked. Anyway, I won't be the one to do it. Awesome story and crazy to be involved in something like this in real life. Glad nothing too bad happened. Well...except for the robber.

It's a textbook example of how it's safer to not go out guns a blazing when six heavily armed men have your stepson hostage... Aside from that, that's a crazy story. It's makes me afraid of some of my past friends.

Hey, thanks for stopping by.

Yeah, your story shocked me, but this took the cake. Whatever his stepson is doing...

I don't know. But I hope they never let him near the house again. He has daughter to look after. I just thought of something else interesting. My friend's wife has an ex husband that murdered a prostitute and is in prison. I met him once myself. Her son is likely acting out in part due to his father's influence.

All I know is my friend picked the wrong family to get tied to...

Would have been awesome if he hid in his room and when the guy walked in he lands a flying knee to his face and sneaks around the house through airvents and takes out the others.

But I realize that most of them would have just got someone killed.

That is pretty intense. I mean having 6 dudes armed to the teeth just for a robbery? Did they think they were dealing with a drug lord or something with an army of body guards? Never been in the situation before, hopefully never will.

This kid (my friends stepson) is stupid. May be selling drugs, we don't know. But I am sure it is no more than a little weed if he is, and they were stupid if they thought he was Nino Brown or something.

(hope I didn't waste that Nino reference.)
