What do you think of them?
I personally can't stand them. Whether it's the preachy straightedge kids, the unintelligent scene kids, or the obnoxious metal kids, they all appear to be the same thing to me: social waste.

"Gangsta" kids are far worse.
what did metal kids do to you? because they walk around with slayer shirts, jackets with patches on them, and they put up horns every minute.. metal kids dont try to be cool or "hip" metal isnt the new thing in pop culture... its been around since the 70's... nimatoad2000
Where have you been? Metal is the hippest of the hip these days.

Heck yes there are! Scene kids, metal heads and straight people don't bother me one bit I actually met some very chill people who fit in those three categories.I actually don't know any straightedge kids. I've got a lot of experience with scene kids and metal kids though. Both very cool groups of people, up to a point. Then they get extremely annoying.Â
Honestly, I'm only willing to have so many conversations about how the Smiths are the greatest band of all time, or how metal requires more talent than any other genre.Â
All of these kids need to learn to just be themselves, and not the people they see in bands and on myspace.brettchalupa
QFT man, QFT.Â
maybee i dont know what a metal kid is, please explain to me what they do and why its annoying.. ( i'm not a metal kid btw.. im just curious here )nimatoad2000
They look the same as your average scene kid, but they get mad if you call them scene. They listen to metal constantly, and ironically call almost every other music genre "repetitive". If I had a dollar for every time some outspoken metal kid tried to argue music with someone, and used the term "repetitive", I would be a BILLIONAIRE!
im a mealhead myself.. but i dont dress or act like one.. why? because the few metal ppl ive seen have long gross looking greasy hair, crappy band shirts and those old demin jackets i live very close to SF, the birthplace of Thrash of all places.. and i know maybee 3 people that like metal... at my highschool if you told ppl you liked metal.. you might as well have told someone you play wow ... what im saying is being public about both made you an outcast.... NO ONE would say they liked metal.. and no one said they played wow..nimatoad2000If people won't like me just because I like a certain music genre or play a certain game, I would seriously think twice about it before becoming friends with them.
if you dont believe metal dosnt require more talent that MOST ( not any) other genre.. listen to rust in peace. classical music and jazz require a lot of skill to... but then 3 chord punk and the guitar played by all these "popular bands" these days.. could be learned in 2 days by a 10 year old kid ( no offence to 10 year old kids)nimatoad2000
I'd say that making music that people like to listen to is a talent in itself, regardless of how many chords you're using.

Really? If only that were the case everywhere... Metal is a HUGE trend in most places. It's all about the hair, the clothes, and myspace. And there seems to be a local metal banded popping up almost every week. And yeah, they all sound the same: blast beats, breakdowns, and... not much else.

I don't know about that... I accidentally made Holiday by Green Day in about 20 seconds... Just for the record, I think Green Day is absolutely awful.
lol at my school metal is one of the in things and a lot of people (myself included) play or have played wow. ive played with some of the 'popular' people as well. the most annoying group imo are the "indie" kids, who listen to crap like fall out boy (not even indie rock). a recent development among these types is bringing a guitar to school and pretending to be a master shredder by playing AC/DC (angus young = overrated guitarist. ac/dc is decent but imo not great or special). but the most annoying part is the smug "i can do anything" attitude they seem to hold.I actually don't know any straightedge kids. I don't even think the "metal" kids listen to metal music. It is more hardcore/death metal music like White Chapel, Knights of the Abyss, and Impending Doom. This is at least what I have noticed. The scene kids, I don't think they listen to music, they just try to look as silly as a person possibly can. I am still trying to understand why anyone would want to label themselves. brettchalupa
That's why I said "metal" instead of metal. I've had to hear about how talented and amazing and heavy all the bands you listed are when I was with some friends who like"metal". A friend of mine actually had "Nailed. Dead. Risen" (Impending Doom's cute tagline) tattooed on his collarbone. Can you say fail?
What the hell is a straight-edge kid?fireball_016
It's a hardcore punk subculture, only without all the fun stuff.
[QUOTE="fireball_016"]What the hell is a straight-edge kid?brettchalupaXXX no drugs, no smoking, no drinking I live that kind of life style due to personal preference not because its the right thing to do. Point being I don't talk down to peple because they do smoke etc. IDK it just seems like a lot of straight kids have some f@#ked god complex and always seem to look down on others because of the choices they make.

i don't get why people need to fall under social labels.
You could say the same about you, as you're not really offering any constructive alternatives. What do you think of them?
