What are you trying to remember? This is my first semester of Spanish (I didn't take any in high school, so my first two semesters wont even count as college credits :( )
It isn't insanely difficult, but some parts are really hard to grasp (estar v ser...grr...had that on a test today), and memorizing vocab is annoying. I use notecards for that, and we usually have to group them together on tests (synonyms / antonyms) so I write those on the back with the definition.
I then do, redo, and redo the homework before a test or quiz (using Quia, an online resource that comes with our book, and has a digital workbook).
I'm doing alright and haven't put a ton of effort into it. Writing sentences is kind of confusing, but I guess that's just because we don't know too many words. Like on today's test we needed to write a personal ad (use 3 adjectives, two things you like or dislike, and what you do with your free time. Also what your ideal amigo/a would be like), and mine was something like this:
Tengo marron pelo y azules ojos. Soy callado. Me gusta eschuchar musica y me no gusta estudia literatura. Estoy escucho musica y monto en bicicleta. Mi amiga ideal tiene negra pelo. Su es inteligente y alegre.
I'm sure I didn't do that right, but that's what I thought of...Lol..I forgot how to say "on the weekend" (something like fi de semana) so I'm not sure it's clear what I like to do in my free time..
Anyway, if your just starting too, I'm right there with you.
