Superman has an alternative costume?

So, I thought that the black and blue costume was an idea originated by the Smallville writers themselves because we know that Tom Welling hates the typical blue and red one. But then I've stumbled on this comic book image. I never read Superman comics and my question is that when and how long has Superman been wearing this alternative costume?

Superman has worn the black costume many times. Most notably right after he came back from the dead.

I should mention, though, that the second picture is not Superman. That is Superman Prime, a more powerful version of Superman from a different world (Earth-Prime)

Correct, he wore black after being killed by Doomsday. One of the greatest comic stories.

Tess and Queen Maxima were the 2 best things to happen to Smallville when it comes to appearance. It's a redhead thing, and I personally think that Chloe looks better than Lana.

They got rid of Jimmy because that wasn't really Jimmy Olsen. He was Henry James Olsen stated by the priest at the funeral. Then Chloe gave Jimmy's camera to his younger brother who would then be the Jimmy Olsen in the comics.

I know, but I thought that was a cop-out. I mean why is it that Henry James Olson has the same mannerisms as the Jimmy Olson we all know and love. It seems like a bit of a stretch that they would act the same and both refer and interact with Clark in the same way. To their defense though, I guess its all good since it makes sense because Clark and Lois always had quite an age difference with Jimmy. Anyways, it was a weak attempt to try and redeem a terrible season :? Oh yeah, CANT WAIT FOR LOST!!!!!!! :o

Eureka is still going in the UK Season three. Haven't even watched season one or two but I instantly knew it was good. Plus I still need to watch Heroes from the Beginning. All I got is House in the UK Season five and it is starting to feel repetitive.kulmiye

You do realise that she used to be a blonde.. the person that portrays Tess. I had to search this up since it is a rarity for a redhead to have blue eyes. I missed some of season eights episodes at the beginning so I don't know how Maxima looks like.kulmiye

Yep, she's a blonde. I didn't know that about redheads though. I have red hair and blue eyes.

Smallville is still on? :? I stopped watching that at season three and assumed they cancelled it somewhere along the line. That being said, yeah the costume looks cool. But Superman isn't Batman and the black isn't fitting.

Doomsday. And yes. He wore it for a short time. He also wore a blue costume and then a red costume (don't remember anything about them, though).

Not the same person. He's from an alternate universe, and he kind of went insane.

Yes. He once fought two Superman at the same time. He fought Superman of New Earth (the "real" Superman) and the Superman from Earth-1 (the Superman that first appeared in Action Comics #1 is Earth-1 Superman. The real Superman, of New Earth, replaced him. See Crisis on Infinite Earths for more details on the replacement) to a standstill. He lost, but not before killing Earth-1 (and he only lost because they brought him to a place with a red sun, where he'd have no powers)
