This is an amazingly fortunate turn of events for the Democrats. They'll be able to replace Scalia with a liberal judge, altering the construction of the court. It will no longer be split, but will drastically shift the court to a far more liberal disposition. In the next ten to twenty years, gun control will be similar to what we see in other European countries, there will be the a single payer, universal healthcare system, as well as most of what is on the liberal docket. The US will, effectively, look like most Western European nations.
