My cousin married a man from sweden and had a kid with him so I know enough.

My idea of it: Cold, yet beautiful and filled with intelligent and funny people. :D
What I know of it: Gustavus Adolphus was quite the badass. . . It's cold there. . . that's about it really. :P
Edit: Beatiful would be the word I misspell on Valentine's Day. :P
Lol I guess maybe the sauna thing i wrote in the finland thread applies.
Also really want to go to Sweden.
Only other thing I know, lots of Muslims and apparently a fair amount of abuse towards woman.

On the part of muslim immigrants, yes. Rape incidents increased significantly as immigration grew.

You need to brush up on your Geography mate.
Swiss army knifes come from, as the name implies, SWITZERLAND.
But I have to agree on that pic, pretty poor example.

Haven't been there but am intrested in doing so. Anyway you obviously spend all day eating Surstromming and meatballs whilst listening to Amon Amarth in your flat pack houses. markop2003
...Or sitting around on IKEA furtniture listening to ABBA feasting on smorgasbord's of delights.

[QUOTE="t3hrubikscube"]I am more partial to Norway! ;)horgen123How come? :D I am 25% Norwegian, so that is probably what sparked my interest. Lots of my older relatives spoke Norwegian, and I thought it was so cool! There also is a huge Norwegian population in the state I live in (North Dakota), and there is a very noticeable Norwegian influence around here. I'm in the process of learning the language and I'd loooove to visit Norway and perhaps live there someday! :) I just love it!
thank u, interesting read!
some seem to totally mixed up with switzerland though and what cheese???????lol
and norway is a smaller version of sweden with "troll- not internet trolls!", oil and richer cause of it - norway and sweden likes to make fun of each other but in a good way (not like canada versus usa) - basically norway is a smaller richer and more expensive country which i only have good stuff to say about (excluding whalehunting...) also norweigan and swedish people can understand each other languages very well - some good skiing there too - for sure the country most like sweden - but more expensive!
im gonna assume the wooden shoes are "träskor", something that they used to wear - i never ever had any t
he nazi stuff etc is mostly related to the fact we just had a "nazi" party elected to our goverment for the first time - not good at all:( the abuse of females i dont understand at all - unless ure implying on foreigners moving to sweden - sweden itself tries to be one of the most equal contries in the world (ofcourse its not! bah)
points for the one who wrote that our future queen married a commoner
we do have very high taxes - but theyre used for free school (yes that includes uni), social welfare, medical system etc (not dentist system though:( - good thing i never had cavaties!)
saunas are originally finnish but we do have them, many have it even in their own house or in common areas with pools
pretty much all swedish kids are blonde... but we're not the country with most blond - if u see a blond she most likely dye her hair a lil, cause real blondes i know usually color it black or brown:P (u know u always want the oppositte of what u got!)
we are pretty tall in general compared to most countries - normal for females cloth sizes is considered 165cm to 172cm (im taller)
gothenburg is known as the metal city, many metal bands comes from sweden - several was mention here already
salt on candy must have been the black licorice that i hate? marabou is our biggest chocolate brand - most who try it like it
ikea, saab, volvo, ericsson, abba, HM, nobel prize and the invention of the dynamite all correct (but some have been sold now)
nature is great - ocean, beaches, lakes, forrests, rivers, mountains... alot like norway
i agree on horrible flag
surströmming and meatballs might be the traditional swedish food but we tend to go for alot of asian, mexican and other countries food ,hardbread wasa is unique for sweden, seafood on every damn traditon yes....herring to be more exact
sweden is a big country i never been to the 50% north of sweden - that would be too cold for me! summers can be really warm, winters really cold - but sometimes not even snow where i live - pretty different seasons ,we have 2 holidays i dont think any other country got: midsummer (sun is up longest during the year) and lucia
gratz to the guy who knows abut composer - im gonna take ur word on it - cause i got no clue!
alot of berries u can pick just during a normal walk - including björnbär like someone mentioned
haha finnish guy:P actually my sis served in afghanistan with finnish boys and she said they were SOOO shy:P but cute! i woudnt say we're that happy:P the darkness during winter takes it toll on many people... a drunk swed is happy though...
alot of soccer mentioned...
ok im really confused about the marijuana comment?!?!? we have very strict druglaws, it exist but its not as common as lets say usa and canada where its really common (yes i been to usa and canada)- sweden is very much a vodka drinking country - not drugs and apperently very few smokers compared to the rest of the world allthough i think that has to do with the use of the tabacco "snus"
i would say we're pretty open and relaxed about sex in general (everything is in general btw)
dont understand the fog comment but maybe another part of sweden has alot of fog??, but not any of the places i been to:P
pippi longstromp is indeed swedish and thats only one of all the amazing stories that female wrote - most have been filmed
we have the same weightproblem the whole world is facing right now- meaning not all are skinny!
i think smörgåsbord is danish??
ok something not mentioned but i heard from friends - i had a canadian friend visit me for a year and we spent time with tons of doctors from all over the world who came to work here (better pay and hours in sweden and we need doctors) - they mentioned sweds dress way better?!?! also a known fact is that we're the country where females wear least highheels - maybe cuse were tall and sneakers are way more comfy?:P
as for hollywood - we got a director lasse hallström who made gilbert grape, chocolate (johnny depp in both) and whatever more... several bond chicks has been sweds, stellan skarsgård do alot of movies, his son is in true blood, the guy in prisonbreak who also did fargo among others is swed, old famous sweds are greta garbo, ingrid bergman...
thats enough of sweden education and please DO topics of what people think of ur own country cause i'll gladly give my views on what i think a country is and then i can be corrected - i like to learn!

Well wiki says so anyway :P
Also I lived in Sydney for a while with some Swedes and Norweigans. They loved having waffle parties (I went to a couple). Is that common over there?
my mistake its originated from sweden but is common all over scandinavia now *ashamed* we have a waffle day coming up:Pgun carrying sex maniacs. Blonde.

You guys have mandatory enlistment to the military, and you have a high suicide rate and spouse abuse.

i wont speak for all about blonde sex maniacs... id say we're pretty open about it and buying sextoys etc is no tabboo, mags are filled with sex advices and legal age for sex in sweden is low - 15 but sweds are general a cold/shy kind of people that is hard to get to know - but like a canadian guy once told me: it took forever to get the swedish girl in bed and she was so shy but in bed she was a wild freak! honestly - its obviously up to each person really:PFirst few things: It's cold, hot blond women,, neturality (in world conflicts), and the Swedish chef from the Muppets
Sweden is the world's northernmost Islamic country. :P
