That's what a new study is saying. Yikes
Why do people want to be tan anyway? Let's face it some people are ment to only be a few shades. If your born looking like Eminem, you shouldn't try to tan your self into Snoop Dog.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough. I never said tanning is in itself bad. Indeed, we don't want to become like Boo Radley. All I'm saying is tan the natural way and not to an excess.Actually having a tan can prevent cancer of the skin and provides vitamin D to the skin. Not going in the sun can make you ill and suffer from many diseases.

It looks amazing on some people. Here is an example of it done right, and at a minimal level tooIs it just me or are Americans too obsessed with looks, we seem to superficial. Maybe it's time to become more "subficial". But any way, some tanning looks better than walking around looking like casper the friendly ghost, but there's no need to walk around looking like Morgoth either.-Pred-Alien-

Actually, tanning beds may help you from winter's depression up here in Norway... Doctor's actually send you to the beds if you suffer from this. I'm not saying that Norway is like the North Pole, we have the Gulf of Mexico and polar bears are NOT walking the streets. I actually do tanning beds on the winter, you might call me obsessed with looks... but I do not do it in an excessive amount, I just look golden kindof. And no Americans are not being more obsessed with looks than other nations, to be honest I can sometimes be superficial and judge people from their looks. It's one of my flaws, and I am always trying to do better. As for tanning beds. They are not only bad. While they can give skin cancer, as regular sun can. They may prevent other cancers from developing, while they give vitamin D and help people with acne problems get rid of their acne. That's what a new study is saying. Yikes

Uhm, tanning beds raises the risks of skin cancer. :| And you don't get vitamin D from tanning beds. That's from the sun, and you only need to stay out in the sun for at least five minutes to get that vitamin D.Actually having a tan can prevent cancer of the skin and provides vitamin D to the skin. Not going in the sun can make you ill and suffer from many diseases.

Well it could certainly cause them to choke D:So if you slip a tanning bed into someone's drink they'll die?

lol. What's funny is that my girlfriend works at a tanning salon; telling me to tan and get a membership because it's much safer and more convenient than going outside in the sun. :lol:Stevo_the_gamerIt's alright, she's a woman :P Kidding, but I like fair skin but I'm in the sun a lot so I stay just a notch above "fair".
Some Americans could be more superficial, maybe then that person would become appropriately shamed by their disgusting gut and multiple chins instead of trying to start some Fat Pride movement. Is it just me or are Americans too obsessed with looks, we seem to superficial. Indeed, moderation would help. Need to take away all the fast food resteraunts we have though, they have way too much market saturation here.
In the old days (Victorian era) it was considered vulgar for women to have a suntan. That is why they carried around those stupid umbrellas :)
And I've actually heard that although getting a little bit of sun each day (like less than 15 minutes) is the best way for getting vitamin D, ultraviolet radiation increases skin cancer risks greatly. It is best to always stay protected.
sounds like a pro marijuana message.. and here is why those type of pro messages fail, though I doubt you'll see the relevance.. anyways TANNING has nothing to do with providing vitamin D to the skin or preventing diease.. The only way you can tan is by exposing your skin to ultraviolet radiation.. which is much different then how your body gets vitamin D from the sun.Actually having a tan can prevent cancer of the skin and provides vitamin D to the skin. So, please, if you're going to make comments like you did at least know what you're talking about. Yes, being out in the sun can be healthy for you. But that's not what this topic is about it's about tanning beds. And yes exposing your skin to UV radiation does cauase skin cancer.

No such thing as a safe tan.

Yeah if you get that from working outside for the day and not getting sunburned. In other words tan NATURALLY, and not for bloody hours and hours. Intentional tanning is bad for you, end of story. People need to stop trying to find evidence that it isn't, as it obviously is. Usually when you intentionally change your body artificially like that, it's unhealthy.

Man your Reboot avatar is boss. That show was rad.
I think tanning beds are just ridiculous. There is this chick at my school that basically turned herself black from tanning to hide her accney. If I want a little tan I just hit a round of golf with some friends. Fun and not harmful.
Sucks that it's usually white girls going to tanning salons. I like my white girls... well... WHITE.DabsTight703:D! Hilariously true. It's like a black girl trying to make herself lighter. Just retarded. BE WHO YOU ARE FOOLISH YOUNG WOMEN! ... And metro dudes as well I guess.

Tanning is ok, burning is not. Vitamin D prevents cancer. Not going in the sun causes cancer.

Sunshine is not the main cause of the most dangerous form of skin cancer, according to researchers, who say some warnings about the perils of sunbathing are scaring people unnecessarily.
The number of moles you have is one of the strongest risk factors for melanoma - stronger than sunshine. This paper shows that we found two important genes that control the number of moles you have. Those genes also give you an extra risk of melanoma.
the researchers even claim our "obsession" with the dangers of exposure to the sun has contributed to serious vitamin D deficiency. A shortage of sunlight - the most important source of vitamin D - can lead to an increase in deaths from other cancers, osteoporosis, depression and premature ageing
