Ugh....her music is repetitive and simple crap.LJS9502_basicWhat's wrong with being "repetitive"? Isn't that called having a chorus? Pop songs tend to have choruses...

She is the best country music star in the world.
Apparently that really pisses off a country music fan I know of. :P
She would not be such a success if she were not talented. The most embarassing song I like a lot is Bowie and Mick Jagger "Dancing in the Street" Mostly because of the tears of Rolling Stones fans. Bowie is always awesome though because even when he isn't, he still is somehow.

Quality is pretty much completely independent of popularity.
But just because fewer people believe what actually happened, doesn't make them wrong.

This is bad even for OT. A music thread and someone has to bring in religion. How pathetic.[QUOTE="leviathan91"]If by country.....you mean pop.Drives me nuts when she is played on the country channel here. I mean seriously, it's not country in the slightest anymore...you can stop playing her new music now.She is the best country music star in the world.

I was just trying to give an example of ad populum, sorry... not trying to make it a religion thread.Listening to Taylor Swift is indeed a religious experience. I'm just not sure if it's one of saintliness or one of sin. At least with some musicians you know where you stand one way or the other.
Is'nt she the one who dates for song inspiration?
I guess she has to go through 10-15 boys for an album....
No, she isn't. She's a product of the music industry as many other acts are. A little talent, a lot of engineering. The fact that most of her songs deal with the same subject, and are often stalkerish, makes her wild success even more of an indictment of the music industry.

[QUOTE="hiphops_savior"]She is a songwriter with a nasally thin voice, a talented songwriter, but that's her bread and butter. I would be shot for this, but I would compare her to Bob Dylan in terms of style, not great vocalists but can connect to their audience with poignant songs about everyday life.LJS9502_basicSarcasm I hope. I googled some of her lyrics....empty and vapid. Dylan really? Ooh, life's so sweet right here Ooh, keeping it young and crazy Ooh, just wanna stay right here Cause nothing's quite like being with my baby I understand what he's saying. Taylor Swift's fans (mostly teenage/preteen girls) listen to her music and think "Taylor Swift is just like me! She gets me." Taylor Swift doesn't have a larger-than-life image like say Lady Gaga or Beyonce, instead she seems like someone who you could have gone to school with.
The Dylan comparison is going overboard though.

It's that preteen girls....not really teen...think the music is wonderful though I doubt they think about the lyrics....but honestly the lyrics are immature and simplistic. Which if you like that.....fine....just don't compare them to established song writers. I mean I'm no Dylan fan....but his lyrics are about more than my boyfriend and me crap like Swift's lyrics.Ugh....her music is repetitive and simple crap.LJS9502_basicWhat an Ironic post with a Cure avatar.

The Cure is the Gold Standard of Three Chord Crap.
Can she sing anything that singers can't typically sing? Can she write about subject matter that isn't typically written about? Can you she play anything of complexity on guitar? Is it difficult to make something catchy? Is catchiness a testament to some sort of quality? Is she really that talented?KHAndAnime
It's easy to write something complex. "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."

You only need to ask one question: Can she twerk?Â
Agreed. That's why Taylor Swift will always be better than all those classical composers and their fugues, and all those jazz ensembles with their dilapidated improvisation. It's easy to write something complex. "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."
PinkiePirate
Prince. Not fond of his music, but the man has talent. He's supposedly mastered like 20+ instruments.
Well, she certainly just put on a show recently and I don't mean it in a good way, that girl is so lost lolI prefer Miley Cyrus.

This coming from a Brit-pop guy... I am sad.
Â
But as for Taylor Swift? I'll be damned- I listened to about 2 hours of alt rock/pop radio the other day, Â the best song that played was "Love Story" by T swift. Her songs are catchy, and bands these days need to step it up.

I like "some" Brit pop songs..... and it's ironic since as I recall you like The Killers....American pop then since they share the same genres.Â
On the other hand I think you have a false impression of what Brit pop actually is.....here's an introduction.
Â
Britpop is a subgenre of alternative rock that originated in the United Kingdom. Britpop emerged from the British independent music scene of the early 1990s and was characterised by bands influenced by British guitar pop music of the 1960s and 1970s. The movement developed as a reaction against various musical and cultural trends in the late 1980s and early 1990s, particularly the grunge phenomenon from the United States. In the wake of the musical invasion into the United Kingdom of American grunge bands, new British groups such as Suede and Blur launched the movement by positioning themselves as opposing musical forces, referencing British guitar music of the past and writing about uniquely British topics and concerns. These bands were soon joined by others including Oasis, Pulp, Supergrass, Sleeper, Elastica and The Verve.
You sound like such a drone. So she's signed to a major record label and sells a lot of records...so that means she's not good? Like someone said earlier in the thread "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" and she's proven she can write genuinely good pop songs, not the middle of the road crap that's just passable enough to be bought. No, she isn't. She's a product of the music industry as many other acts are. A little talent, a lot of engineering. The fact that most of her songs deal with the same subject, and are often stalkerish, makes her wild success even more of an indictment of the music industry.
