JustBeYourself
You sound like such a drone. So she's signed to a major record label and sells a lot of records...so that means she's not good? Like someone said earlier in the thread "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" and she's proven she can write genuinely good pop songs, not the middle of the road crap that's just passable enough to be bought.

Yeah no. That was a stupid comment to make in regard to simplicity. Don't hold it up as though it's actually a valid point.

Talented? Sure I guess.

But I would never listen to anything she puts out.

I actually kind of agree with "justbeyourself". Taylor Swift doesnt have a dozen middle of the road pop tunes that are passible. She has a bunch of really catchy songs that are really appealing. Especially to younger people. That song "Trouble" has a kick-ass chorus. (half-time with 16th note high-hat? Its so good)

I think she projects a fragility and delicacy which the public likes, sort of like Julia Roberts. I love her fashion style even if her music nothing to write home about.

[QUOTE="JustBeYourself"][QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]Ugh....her music is repetitive and simple crap.LJS9502_basic
What's wrong with being "repetitive"? Isn't that called having a chorus? Pop songs tend to have choruses...

Pop tends to be the worst genre of music....

Pop stands for popular.. if it's popular then the majority of people must like it. Obviously there are some songs that people won't like.. but if it's pop then most people do enjoy it.. thats also why you'll hear songs repeated on the radio.. it's what people want to hear.

She is but in any case I feel bad for you. Having bad taste is a genetic disorder passed on from generation to generation so it's really not your fault that you're an idiot. So I'm gonna help you out and recommend something that's more up your alley: shit.

Of course, Ali. More grammies = better artist. Totally. Give this a listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5RzpPrOd-4

Listen to all of it also.

The Grammy statement was an obvious joke but in any case you don't even need to like someone's music to recognize whether or not they're talented and to deny dat voice is nonsense. And for the record I like Deerhunter buuuuuuuuuut I'm not exactly sure why you posted that since I don't find them particularly compelling on a raw talent level.

The music industry sucks......yet so many fall for their processed music.

I don't know, a lot of artists like The Cure or Muse are signed by a major label (I know Muse is by Warner Brothers and The Cure is Universal). Also, yesterday I heard a Taylor Swift song followed by a Cure song on the radio on a local Hot AC station, and while I obviously preferred the Cure song greatly, people can have different tastes, and the song they played didn't really seem too poorly written, and people can prefer it if they choose.

There is a difference in how the bands went about getting exposure. Kind of silly to compare the two actually. I don't think you understand what I mean about the industry and processed music. Swift is definitely in that category.

I see a difference in quality, but neither are really "attention whores" a la Madonna to get fame. They both started out small and got signed by a major record label which helped gain them popularity.
