Why would you feel disgusted by that? Perhaps she worked at Wal-Mart.as horrible as this is...I can't help but feel disgusted by the "From your Wal-Mart Family, Rest in Peace" sign right there in the middle of the poster.

oh ****ing christ, that's a 4 hour drive and a ferry ride from where I live. how did I not hear about this? that's disgusting.
Also, this thread makes me a bit wary of talking on WoW ever. I will regularly discuss things that should not be seen by prying GM eyes with my boyfriend when we play :/

That is like, 300 miles away!
:-/ Oh yeah, all is smooth in any country with a population of 35+ million, :roll:Awful, just awful.
Anyone else recall that Canadian air force colonel who was recently sentenced for dozens of break-ins, two rapes, and two murders? I thought Canadians weren't into the whole murder thing.

[QUOTE="BiancaDK"]So what?l4dak47She's right. There are hundreds of women getting killed and raped every day. Why does only hers matter? It's not the only one that matters - we're not claiming that. It's just that this story is unusual due to the fact that it involves World of Warcraft, and thus, is good for discussing.

[QUOTE="Setsa"]That's messed up.... Just goes to show Canada isn't as innocent as people think : /DeihjanI thought it did when that kid ran away because of his 360..and died in a snowstorm. The kicker is that people will look at WoW and CoD being the causes of this instances when really, it's a psychological problem that runs much deeper. I actually felt really bad for the kid who ran away and died though, he probably didn't understand how easy one could die in the wilderness around here. Heck, he might have wanted to come home....

Awful story. Too bad Canada doesn't have the death penalty. Also:

Well its clear they are psychopaths.. Lock them up for life with out parole..
Well, time to stop sayign certain things over WoW.... Wait, what isn't monitored anymore except land line phone calls and face to face?Ringx55
They aren't really monitored as so much recorded.. Blizzard or any company hardly has the resources of monitoring everything a person says for every person on their servers.. What they will do is if people claimed that they said this, the gms would check the logs.

I think it was probably the 'friend' who the murderer was sending messages to that reported the incident.[QUOTE="Ringx55"]Well, time to stop sayign certain things over WoW.... Wait, what isn't monitored anymore except land line phone calls and face to face?sSubZerOo

My ,istake, I meant recorded, it's the fact they do have a database of everything that's been said I'm sure. Was an atheist. Go figure.Mephers
What does that have anything to do with it? Sorry to break it to you but there are people who commit murder regardless if they are atheist or religious.
What the hell is wrong with people these days? First we have all these suicides from bullying this year and now this takes to a whole new, awful level :?.
Also, why is everyone whining about the article? Geez people, it's Kotaku. Just because someone says video games and murder in the same sentence doesn't mean they have some sort of bias against video games.
CTV's article: "They were also fans of World of Warcraft, a sometimes violent online fantasy game with 12 million subscribers around the world. Experts believe it perpetuated the violence against the 18-year-old girl and provided key information to police. " Sounds like they're connecting dots to me.What the hell is wrong with people these days? First we have all these suicides from bullying this year and now this takes to a whole new, awful level :?.

Well it is sometimes violent, and it obviously provided info to police(Bragging about murder over the internet tends to do that). As for the experts comment, within the context of the situation they are probably somewhat correct. Being that mentally disturbed and playing a game like WOW isn't really a good combo, though I doubt this is a problem that started when these boys started playing WOW.

WoW has violence similar to loony toons.... There is no blood, no graphic animations.. Its as simple as it comes.

These kids aren't right in the head. Any kind of violence probably wouldn't be good for them, and they need/needed psychiactric help. Plus WOW can get very addicting. I'm not saying WOW is bad and gory and causes violence by itself, but for what was going on in these kids' heads, it probably wasn't a very positive influence.

The implication is that the violence in World of Warcraft is what set these guys up. Even if you don't see it that way, and even if the article isn't trying to spin it that way, it would be very easy for someone to interpret it that way. What you said is probably the best way to put it. This kid was mentally disturbed and he plays World of Warcraft. That doesn't mean World of Warcraft is what's pushing him over the edge. And if it is, it's no one's fault except his parents who weren't responsible enough to notice the impact something like that was having on their kid. Besides that, things like this happen all the time. So when I read disturbed kid kills another kid, I'm not surprised and hearing it over and over again has made it less meaningful. Not that I don't feel bad, but it's nothing new. Linking this to World of Warcraft just made it a lot more newsworthy...apparently.So what?BiancaDK
Let me guess, maybe if it was a puppy you would care right?
For ****s sake, if you don't care about the story, they why bother posting a pointless message about it? Just don't click on the topic, it's not that hard. I'm sure you wouldn't say "so what?" to the family who has to live with this.
This is really horrible, but the implication that this crime was somehow brought on by video games is absurd. Stuff like this happened long before video games were ever invented. I guess people are so confounded by immoral behavior they'll blame just about anything....
also, the bias..."nihilistic atheist", "avid gamer", and "game that blurs the line between reality and fantasy"...is simply disgusting. Reporters should feel guilty about this.

this. do they ever mention that murderers are christian when a christian murders someone?
