Man, I try to hang out with some of my friends but the problem is, they just won't stop texting. I can't even have a decent conversation with the person because they are always texting. Better yet, I find it rude when they text at the dinner table. Man, if my kid does that, I will disown him/her. Then again, by that time, texting will be a thing in the past. Anyhow, what are your thoughts on texting and do you find it annoying like I do?

I have a friend who doesn't go a minute without texting someone. I find it really annoying because he's with some people but having a conversation with someone else. It's as if the other person is more important.

I'd rather call the person.

I agree.

Why have a conversation composed of several text messages (which cost me good money) when you can just call and have it all said then and done.

Yea...american school systems aren't usually like that and they really aren't that bad, there are a lot of intelligent kids but are held back because of kids who aren't ready for the grade they're in but the "No Child Left Behind" program is around...also the problem with not seperating the more intelligent kids from the slow learners etc. from important classes like math and science and so on. Also, on topic, you are obviously exaggerating...none of my friends do that and a lot of 'em text all the time.

I can see how texting can get annoying quickly, but it is a useful tool. When you're at a concert or somewhere loud, texting someone makes life easier.

It's a thing of the past now. I guess then they'll be calling them instead of using their hologram phones.

Texting is incredibly stupid... unless you work for a phone company, in which case you're raking in a clean 15 cents for every text an idiotic teenager makes to the person beside him/her.

I love texting, and I'm 25. There are a lot of times where calling isn't a viable option, or you just need to say/find out one little thing. Oh yeah... I have unlimited texting on a phone plan that I myself pay for.

There's nothing wrong with texting itself, it's pretty useful for little note/reminder/confirmation kind of messages, such as "hey so we meet at the cinema at 4:30 right?" and the person simply replies "yes".

The problem is, like some said, when people are actually having a conversation via text messages, it's annoying and stupid, and a waste of money. I just remembered, I absolutely hate it when I'm at the movies and I see someone texting in mid-movie, I just want to yell at them "can't you just leave that damn thing along for one freaking second and pay attention??? Can't you live without your cell phone attached to your fingers?!?!" :x

I text maybe a couple of times a day. Never usually more than ten.

These obsessive texting people that you speak of...I don't really know any.

I genuinely think I'm the only kid in my grade who doesn't have a cell phone. I personally would find it annoying to have people contacting me everywhere I go. Not that I'm antisocial I just like my privacy from time to time. If you want to talk to me, come see me in person or call me at home. I do however recognize that as an adult I'll have no choice but to get a cellphone.

Texting can actually be a pretty useful tool...however, as other people have mentioned, using it in place of a conversation is pretty pointless, imo. I myself don't text, but that might be because I never have my cell phone on, which in turn might be because I live in an area where my cell phone provider doesn't provide service.

I'm completely okay with occasional texting. Sometimes it's just easier to text someone if you have just one question or something. It's really convenient. However, it drives me crazy when you're with someone and all they can do is text. It's inconsiderate and annoying.

Texting has died down a bit at my school. It's not allowed, which might be why, but everyone used to try to get away with it anyway. I'm not that good at it and if someone texts me while I'm home, I just get on AIM and text them because I'm much more effective with the keyboard and pressing all those little buttons irritates me.

I'm not going to lie, I text a lot. But, I do have the common courtesy and respect to stop texting when I'm in the middle of a conversation with someone. The most annoying someone can do is text while you're telling them a funny story, and they laugh, and you're like, I know, funny right? And they say, oh no, so-and-so is texting me and said...etc. Lots of my friends do that.

If you're going to text, you don't have to adopt the crazy, illegible code that many people use.

(I know, I know, it's not exactly illegible, but I really don't like it).

I agree, I hate when I'm talking to my neighbor and she'll be like "Hold on" and push buttons on her phone for three minutes while I stand there.

Also I'm horrible at typing things on a one inch button pad where 9 buttons are supposed to substitute 26 on a footwide keyboard, it's stupid IMO.

I find it funny. Those girls are always like "Guys spend way too much time playing video games" and crap like that. Yet, it seems, whenever at a party, the girls are sitting in the corner texting people. Its actually quite pitiful.

I text a lot. I'm the manager of the girls tennis team at my school, and talking on the phone isn't allowed during matches (and there is nothing else for me to do) so I text. Not to mention whenever I'm around my family I don't just want to start talking on the phone so they can hear everything I'm saying.

It allows for privacy. And as mentioned it's great when you just have to send that quick message.

Plus I have unlimited texting and my phone has a keyboard...

I never text. And it does get quite annoying to constantly see everyone texting as I walk around my High school. The idea of texting is fine, but many people take it much farther than it needs to be. :?

"Sorry, I'm texting, 1 sec."- Teh usual comment from my friends during a conversation. I myself do not text, it is about as evil as a mad cow...
