I recently heard that new televison technology are about to come out to the market. I know one of them is laser based and the other is crt based. How does each one compares to plasma and lcd displays in the quality and price catagory? plus is it any worth waiting for one of them? if not can you lit the best 50" displays out now?

Well the laser will be hella expensive if it is released( I have never heard of it...) because a laser is a concentrated beam of light... so to make a picture with lasers would require millions of lasers or millions of non-heat-sensitive mirrors...
The current best technology is DLP... there are few things that can go wrong with it from outside souces(unlike plasma which can have burn-ins and LCD which can be damaged by force on the screen...) and it is also cheapest currently...

As for quality... DLP is on top there as well... DLP uses light reflected off of mirrors to display images while LCD uses charged particles of liquid crystal being moved by a magnet and heated to reflect certain colors... this means that the image on a DLP will be sharper and a response time as fast as light and as fast as your eyes and mind can view light while the LCD is heating and charging magnets every milisecond to move the particles around and create new colors... which means the image must first be formed and colored which takes miliseconds (hard to actually see but it causes ghosting--- white-light left being where an image used to be)

A large LCD and large plasma are quite comprable in price...There really aren't "to many risks'' involved either, people always say this (stating burn in as a huge issue) basing it on old models, current generation plasma tvs do not have many of the problems older models had
To the TC, waiting for new technologies to come out is can be a hassle (there is always soemthign new on the horizon) and waiting for something to come out and grabbing a first gen product is always risking. As for the "best" 50" displays, go look around local shops, find out what you like, what's in your price range, etc

Um... Looking around local shops is the worst idea ever... I mean... most of them will be 75% more expensive than any online retailer... you could get the TV and Next day shipping for 25% less than any store easily from a good e-tailer...

If you are refurring to CRT TV... then no because that is a normal standard deffinition TV...

Actually that d was a mistake. I meant CRT and it isn't standard definition. I have one right now you crazy hdtv expert. CRT has the best image quality and is a lot better than LCD and Plasma

Alright, first off, i know this is a few days late, so i apologize.
Second, you are against local stores, but you suggest futurshops website...news flash if you want to go with Futureshop why would you not go to a brick and mortar store where you aren't going to pay delivery fees (90% of the time any price on Futurshops website will be the same in store, the exception being mainly refurbished items which may not be in a local store).
Second, going to a local place is much better, it gives you a better idea of what you like (asthetical speaking) and what could fit well in your home, plus you can view the picture quality in person (don't go to a big box store for this, they are usually hooked up poorly and to an analog source)
Local shops often will match online retailers and even if they can't do it in price they can easily do it in extras such as higher quality cables, wall mounts, stands, etc.
