"Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have jointly announced they will partner on a rebooted TERMINATOR movie, to be released by Paramount Pictures on June 26, 2015.

The first in a stand-alone trilogy, TERMINATOR will be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna and David Ellison of Skydance. Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake of Skydance will serve as executive producers. Laeta Kalorgridis (Avatar, Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) are attached to write the screenplay.

Launched in 1984 with star Arnold Schwarzenegger as the title character, TERMINATOR spanned 3 subsequent films, which have earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

David Ellison most recently executive produced, along with his partners at Paramount, World War Z, Star Trek Into Darkness, G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol. A 5th installment of in the Mission: Impossible franchise is in active development, along with a 3rd film in the G.I. Joe franchise, among other films.

Megan Ellison most recently produced the Academy Award®-nominated Zero Dark Thirty, The Master and executive produced Spring Breakers via her Annapurna Pictures banner and has David O. Russells American Hustle, Spike Jonzes Her, and Bennett Millers Foxcatcher set for release later this year."

This Also, I dont like the sound of a stand alone trilogy. Are they going to just remove John and Sarah Connor from the plot? No Arnie?

This is one film series that just needs to be put out to pasture.  Arnold's too old to convincingly play the role anymore, and the last two films were unnecessary.

Sounds awesome. I was really hoping they wouldn't follow up after T:Salvation.  Hopefully a new entire cast will be introduced, and hopefully an actor who will play John Connor for more than 1 film. I always wanted to kick something in whenever I found that someone else would be picking up his role in each film. Christian Bale was a damn stupid decision. I heard Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was involved in the series as well. If they choose him to be the new Terminator, I will be satisfied.

He's already stated in past interviews that he's done with the franchise. You'd think that due to some of the more underwhelming remakes within the past few years, (Total Recall comes to mind off the top of my head) some studios would think about what franchises to redo. I got a feeling that if this first film of the new trilogy tanks, plans for part 2 and 3 are going out the window.

That's what happened to T:Salvation. Heres a funny thought, what if they got Arnold to play the role of John Connor for the next 3 films. Lol.

And while I'm not against the idea of reboots/remakes, they ought to be doing something which sucked the first time but had potential. They should be taking a good concept and doing it BETTER, rather than rebooting/remaking stuff which was already just fine the first time around. The Terminator still holds up shockingly well despite some lame effects, and there's very little chance of these guys topping Terminator 2. Terminator is just a bad franchise to reboot/remake in the first place.

Why? Is there anything else that can be done with the damn thing? Just let it end where it is instead of pointlessly remaking it.

Also, I love that they're planning a trilogy. Because naw, just trying to make one good film isn't enough, you gotta project it for a trilogy even though you have no guarantee that people will care past part one.

Am I the only one that actually enjoyed the third one? It has one of the best chase scenes for instance I have ever seen in a movie.. And I actually enjoyed the John Connor in the third much more than Furlong in the second (which I despised). Salvation though was awful..

I've always thought the Terminator franchise had been cooler in concept than in execution, so I'm fine with them rebooting it.

(With that said I'm sure the new ones will suck just as bad, if not worse.)

Why do people act like remakes are some new trend? The movie industry has been doing it every since the movie industry was born. For instance: 'The Wizard of Oz', largely considered to be one of the greatest films of all time, was actually the 7th film adaptation of that book. Hell, the second commercial film was probably a remake of the first.

I enjoyed the third as a fun popcorn flick (which is what I went in expecting). It's not groundbreaking by any means, but sometimes a popcorn flick is all you're looking for.

I'll probably see these at some point, go in with similarly low expectations, and leave satisfied.

I'm really hoping that this will take place in the post apocalyptic, plasma shooting, terminator run, human endangered species, dark, run down world with streets full of human skulls getting ran over by huge terminator tanks that all Terminator fans have been wanting since watching the first few seconds of T1.

Say what they will, but Star Trek needed a change similar to what was made in order to remain marketable.
