Have you or anyone you ever knwon had a terrible semester in college (Grades wise)? How did things go after that?
I'm on my way to having a bad one so just curious what the aftermath was like for some other people.

define terrible
this semseter has been lame for me
i can't read any of my prof handwriting and he doesn't post anything online
or that means i shud sit closer
nah
oh and when in doubt c's get degrees
Like jiggly said, define terrible, you may have to do a drastic change and work harder or it was just an unfortunate semesterHave you or anyone you ever knwon had a terrible semester in college (Grades wise)? How did things go after that?

While that isn't as high a GPA as you might want, you still aren't failing. If you make extra effort to get a 3.5 or 4.0 next semester than it should be that bad. I have a friend who is in his first semester and is failing a couple of classes and has bad grades in all the rest. He asked his teacher if he was screwed and she told him no, it happens all the time to kids in their first semester. You should be fine as long as you strive harder next semester. It's really hard to tell at this point. It could drop below 2.5 though

This semester isn't going all that great for me, I only had one class related to my major and my grade point average is deffinately going to drop below a 3.0.
First year I was put on forced leave (I could really come up with any type of excuse, but it was really just laziness), but the school gave first year leniencies and I'm back in my first year doing pretty well for myself actually
Define terrible. There are nerds out there that think a 4.0 is terrible. :P
Pirate700
my family is pretty strict in that regard. a 3.5 is not good enough for them and if I want to get into med school unfortunately they're basically right.
Anyways I know I can put in alot more effort, but my laziness is astounding. I think I might have a serious condition >_>
I'm not terribly happy with this semester. I should pass all my classes and all, although there are 1 or 2 where I'm hoping I'll get C's. =/
There was one course I failed my freshman year due to attendance issues (because my university actually gives a sh*t about that) and didn't find out about my failing grade until AFTER the class drop due date, and then I dropped a class my sophomore ywear since I was falling behind, and because I was considering changing my major and didn't even need the class anymore.
Things have been better for me (for the most part) ever since I did change my major thankfully. And thanks to taking a couple summer courses, will be able to graduate 2 more semesters after this current one as opposed to 3.
I actually have yet to have a bad semester. Luckily enough for me, I have not had to drop/withdraw from any courses, nor have I failed any. Just go to class. It pays off. I dont buy books/study. I just go to every lecture and am attentive. College is just another game, just like anything else. I consider everything a game.
I think I have 2 C's on my transcript. Music History 1, and Ear Training 2. (music classes).
This semester is OK for me (A & B's, unless I f*ck up and get a C or something)
I've never had a failing grade in my transcript. Let's hope it stays that way.
Things could be worse, TC. Just don't let the GPA drop anymore. 2.0 range is a dangerous zone.
I've had my fair share of slumps as well.
 You can't do that in difficult classes.I actually have yet to have a bad semester. Luckily enough for me, I have not had to drop/withdraw from any courses, nor have I failed any. Our education system is really flawed in this country... Nothing is equivalent anywhere...
Everyone in this thread is pissing and moaning about how hard college is and how they are doing bad... My worst semester I got 2 B's... I have never had a C or anything below that... And I am a senior.
I know I am not a genius, in fact I put very little effort into school compared to other people... And I don't even go to a small school ffs... I am at Ohio State. This upsets me :|

Double major in history and political science, but I am also in the honors program here.
I may or may not fail a class just because of my attendance.
I did most of the Blackboard assignments and got high grades on my essays but because of CUNY's fcking attendance policy the professor might be forced to give me a WU instead of a high B.
:|
This is also not the first time I was in danger of failing because of attendance, it was pretty much the same case with another class last fall where I was averaging an A in but thankfully the professor was lenient and didn't factor the attendance into the grade. That bullsh!t also caused my grade to drop down to a fcking B- in a couple of my classes.
Attendance should not be factored into the grade because if I'm doing well enough to get a B or A while missing 7 or 8 ( the max absenses allowed) clasees through out the semester then it's obvious that missing a few classes isn't going to affect my performance.
What really gets me heated is that I'm the one who is paying to be there, not them, so how the fck can they tell me that I can not pass a class just because I missed a couple of days?
The irony is that the classes where I have had a shaky attendance were always the ones where I did very good in while the classes I had great attendance in, I either failed or received a low grade in.
Before some smart ass replies and tells me to just go to class every day, I have a very grumpy and ungrateful grandmother to take care of at home and sometimes I'm just so drained from work, classes and dealing with that tumor that I just decide to stay in bed all day.
/rant
So yeah, I'm having a bad semester. The aftermath? Waste even more money and take that class again but at least you'll have the knowledge and experience from taking it the first time so you can just take it easy.

If I was studying that I would probably never have to attend lecture to maintain a 3.5. Talking like that when majoring in political science :(If I was studying that I would probably never have to attend lecture to maintain a 3.5. Talking like that when majoring in political science :(achilles614
Insults a major after taking like one general education PLS 1000 level course. Funny.

How are mathematics and science difficult? No reasoning no critical thinking, just number crunching, formulaic memorization, etc? I mean, literally I don't see how someone could have a difficult time with that, especially if they are interested in it and going so far as to major in it... I can understand that kind of argument in graduate school when one is dealing with theoreticals and emerging fields and their own advanced research? But undergraduate? What kind of argument is that?

I don't think you know what science is if you think it's "No reasoning no critical thinking, just number crunching, formulaic memorization"
Are you sure you are a double major in college?

Well one of roommates is an engineering major...
One of them an organic chemistry major...
One is majoring in biomedical engineering...
All of us are in the honors program (honors dorm), none of them complain about their majors being difficult, in fact the organic chemistry guy is thinking of dual majoring, as in not double, but pursuing a second degree all together because what he does is so easy (according to him). And considering we are all native Ohioans... To me that says something... We aren't the cream of the crop... We didn't grow up in private schools, we all went to public school, two of us inner city Cincinnati (some sh-tty schools)...
Someone is a little smug.
Now all we need is an English major to come in and tell us how literature creates life and scientists and mathematicians are just soulless drones who waste their lives on meaningless things.

Nope just seen enough people major in it to know it can't be too hard to graduate. Too bad now they're all underemployed.Someone is a little smug.

Because I accused math and science majors of that... Of course.
In fact what I said was I don't understand how math and science are difficult for the people that major in it. I'm assuming one doesn't just wake up one day and think "today I will major in biology! , mathematics! , chemistry! , engineering!"... I am further assuming that it is something they are drawn to over time... As in they took AP mathematics or physics or what have you classes all through high school and found pleasure in them and sought a degree and/or employment in them...
To me that indicates ease, pleasure, etc... If you took math in high school and struggled and then took some math your first year in college and struggled, and now are a mathematics major and continue to struggle. Why are you majoring in mathematics? Even if high school is easy for you and then you struggle in college. Why are you majoring in something that you aren't grasping? How can you ever apply it or continue it if is something you aren't understanding?
EDIT: Oh and sorry for sounding smug, I guess everyone else's smug rubbed off when they were implying that what I have done takes no skill and how the majors they described and thus the people in them are somehow better than me. I apologize.

do we really need to fight over which major is harder? there can be lots of reasons why someone isn't having a great semester. Major choice, personal issues, stress, life in general. sh*t happensTo be fair, math and science are not really "difficult" majors as you really have to be dumb to not graduate. However, non-STEM majors are even easier.
My semester went pretty well. Kept a 4.0. Granted, I am a music major, so take that information as you wish... :P
Have you ever taken a class where the averages on the test are around 30%? That's happened to me in two different classes, how can you say those classes aren't difficult? How are mathematics and science difficult? Hey guys, did you know that there's no critical thinking involved with science/math? I sure didn't.
Also, I really don't understand why some of you attend school just to go through the motions and get crappy grades. I understand a few bad semesters, but to be okay with your crappy GPA is ridiculous. Do you think that potential employers/grad schools don't care about it?
