Our education system is really flawed in this country... Nothing is equivalent anywhere...

Everyone in this thread is pissing and moaning about how hard college is and how they are doing bad... My worst semester I got 2 B's... I have never had a C or anything below that... And I am a senior.

I know I am not a genius, in fact I put very little effort into school compared to other people... And I don't even go to a small school ffs... I am at Ohio State. This upsets me :|

C2N2

What's your major?

Double major in history and political science, but I am also in the honors program here.

Law school bound? Which schools are you looking at if so?

You go to Ohio State and put very little effort into it and still get A's? Hmm, something's amiss. Ohio State hovers around the top 50 best universities every year (although it's relatively weak compared to much of the BIG 10). Either you've struck tremendous fortune and taken all of the easy classes or you're lying about something.

Erm, I wouldn't take it too personally. People will always be pretentious about this topic, especially the engineers (seriously), and they're just looking to rile someone up.

But to dismiss science and math fields as not having critical reasoning and thinking? You're stretching it. The truth is not all degrees are equal in terms of GPA and whatnot. A 3.4 in a humanities field is not the same as a 3.4 in a STEM field. You should still just pursue what you want, though, and take no shame in it. People have their own preferences, abilities, etc. In reality all the different specialties make up a functioning society and whatnot..

Georgetown probably... I have already had internships in DC and will probably live in and/or around DC/Virginia... Plus I am not going straight through, I don't have the money, it will be a few years before I go. Not the best, but not the worst either... But it doesn't need to be Harvard or Yale, I don't plan on private practice or some big firm, I have always and continue to want to work for the US government.

I have just always procrastinated. Don't know what it is, but since like 4th grade I always just wait until the last minute to do things. No particular reason as I don't do anything while not doing the work... I just don't even attempt to work on things until the last second. And it always turns out just fine. Even professors that are notorious for being harsh graders... Extremely negative reviews on ratemyprofessor, etc... They will give out an assignment, read this book, write this paper, etc due 2 weeks from now... I won't even touch the book until the night before and then I will go through that book, sift through all the clutter and write a 12 page paper about it at 2am, get an A on the paper with positive comments. And I usually don't take notes, I just listen, don't even cram for tests, never done poorly on a test.

Like this in most of my classes, honors, both majors, general education.

All apart from foreign language. I hit a wall at foreign languages and my methods crash and burn. I am doing horribly in them. In all languages, I have taken 3 different languages (Arabic, Spanish, German) and have to work very hard just to scrape by, I hate it.

This is how many normal students feel, maybe you are gifted? By the way, from your earlier comment, I was a science major in undergrad and the first objective in my major was critical thinking (ahead of learning specificis), I think most of the other science majors also had it as a priority as well.

I had a relatively bad one ... and the following 5 semesters were my best. I just needed to realize that I couldn't take success for granted.

Because I accused math and science majors of that... Of course.

In fact what I said was I don't understand how math and science are difficult for the people that major in it. I'm assuming one doesn't just wake up one day and think "today I will major in biology! , mathematics! , chemistry! , engineering!"... I am further assuming that it is something they are drawn to over time... As in they took AP mathematics or physics or what have you classes all through high school and found pleasure in them and sought a degree and/or employment in them...

To me that indicates ease, pleasure, etc... If you took math in high school and struggled and then took some math your first year in college and struggled, and now are a mathematics major and continue to struggle. Why are you majoring in mathematics? Even if high school is easy for you and then you struggle in college. Why are you majoring in something that you aren't grasping? How can you ever apply it or continue it if is something you aren't understanding?

EDIT: Oh and sorry for sounding smug, I guess everyone else's smug rubbed off when they were implying that what I have done takes no skill and how the majors they described and thus the people in them are somehow better than me. I apologize.

The only people I see that find engineering easy over here are Chinese foreign students 0.0. But Canadian schools like Waterloo and UofT tend to be harder than American schools, besides maybe MIT level.

Formulaic memorization maybe a little but even with full formulas the averages for chemistry dipped under 50 every time.

At the same time we took social science as electives and beat most of those majors.

This semester will be my worst because of an engineering type physics course I took. Even though I'm still in my first year, but I'm not doomed.Next semester will be a breeze compared to this semester besides bio.:|

Yeah, for me I'm getting a D I think for Linear Algebra (mostly because its at 8am in the morning, and I realized that I'm prone to making computational errors that early in the morning) But then again, I'm transferring to an Ivy league next semester, so hopefully they can look over that :P

I'm lousy in programming which brought my average down to 3.79 (Spring 2011) and 2.79 (Fall 2011) although I also spent the majority of the latter sick. I did just the bare minimum to pass and spent the rest of my time outside of work resting.

Spring 2012 was a 4.0. For this semester, worst case is a 3.75. I'm totally burned out though.

I actually have yet to have a bad semester. Luckily enough for me, I have not had to drop/withdraw from any courses, nor have I failed any. Just go to class. It pays off. I dont buy books/study. I just go to every lecture and am attentive. College is just another game, just like anything else. I consider everything a game.

I think I have 2 C's on my transcript. Music History 1, and Ear Training 2. (music classes).

I sense a science/math/engineering student. "You cant do that in difficult classes". Calling another major easy :roll:Being a fine arts major (music) sucks. Thats some cut-throat stuff. Auditions... consistent tests of performance and skills...

Also- you do not need to buy books. Make friends. Borrow books. Torrent them. Dont buy them- there is no need.

If you are truly worried about having a bad semester man why don't you start implementing some corrective measures now so you can counter that bad semester. Everyone falls every once in awhile and it is completely ok. You got one of two choices either you can fall and stay down or you can fall and get right back up again. I don't really know your circumstances but i would be willing to bet either you neglected your school work all together or you have had a lot of personal stuff going on and your grades paid the price. Either way there is always a choice and the end justifies the means. So buckle down, hit them books and make up for it. After all it is not the end of the world....

What about exams? That's where I would falter enormously if I didn't take notes/study/review. I go to Nebraska which is a pretty weak BIG 10 school (still close to top 100, and I'm sure they'll crank up the difficulty to compete with other BIG 10 schools in the near future) and I struggle on business tests, particularly economics, if I don't study tremendously. Then again economics is just difficult to grasp in general.

I wasn't attempting to be smug, I was attempting to illustrate how there was inequality in the quality of education everywhere... I was trying to do so by arguing that my education was somehow not to the same higher standard as others (to my surprise given the size and publicity of my school) and thus my grades were better because the professors here graded different than elsewhere... And how ridiculous it is for say a history major where I am to get graduate with a 3.9GPA to be compared to a history major at another university who graduated with a 3.2GPA when we are both very capable, but our GPAs were different simply because the staff at our respective schools did things different...

And then people ignored that argument and started insulting my majors as requiring no skill... So I responded in kind.

I had one a year ago when I failed a class. I was depressed for a few days since my GPA did drop since it was the first time I got something lower than a B on my college transcript, but then I got over it through the use of laughter.

I'm In EE. And why do you asssume only fine artsmajors have to deal with nerve wracking Stuff? Throughout this Semester I had to apply and Interview for a co-op while taking all my classes. And I actually Wasn't saying your major was easy, I was Saying you can't Not study and do well in hard classes which is true. Also part of what makes engineering difficult is the labs. They take a super long time to do And are usually Not given proportional credit Hours. This Semester I took a class that was one credit hour And it had lecture Every Week and lab every Other week. The labs Probably took around 6-10 hours Of work.
