Good. One less scumbag on Earth.
This man raped, then killed a teenager. I think he deserved it, but it's a shame that it took this long to get him executed.

Um, yes? Unless you're entirely apathetic to the whole death penalty issue, you're bound to have an opinion. Is there a discussion there?

I don't know, you tell me.What should we follow your statement with?

Fine I'll do it: Death sentence is abhorrent no matter who it's applied to. Even Hitler There. This discussion is already at Godwin's law.Ace6301Too bad you're right.
I say good riddance. If we set an example for what happens to whomever murders and/or rapes, then there would be significantly less murders and rapes IMO.
An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind...Aquat1cF1shThis wasn't an eye for an eye. They didn't give him to the guys in prison that HATE rapists. That would've been an eye for an eye. This is justice.
This guy didn't just rape a 16 year old girl. He killed her after that. People like this, deserve no mercy, and yes I'd say the same thing if the person in question was my brother or son, because under no circumstance would they commit something like this.
why can't we just execute people by shooting them and feeding them to wild animals or something, or throwing them in a furnace? It's such a shame that killing people costs more than keeping them alive in the penal system. I never understood that.

Why did it take 17 years for this to happen? He should have been taken out back and shot in the head with a rifle the minute he was found guilty.imaps3fanboyThats not exactly justice...
Thats not exactly justice... You're right, he wasn't raped or assaulted first. Or do you want to elaborate on your "counterpoint?"[QUOTE="imaps3fanboy"]Why did it take 17 years for this to happen? To everyone saying this an eye for an eye, it's not.
An eye for an eye, would be the court ruling that he get raped first, before being clobbered to death with a chunk of asphalt. As much as I'd love for that to happen, it's not justice.
Good job Texas at violating an international treaty and damaging Americas image in the world! Let me applaud your stupidity.majoras_wrath
Right, so the whole world is a left-leaning anti-death penalty liberal right?
Good job Texas at violating an international treaty and damaging Americas image in the world! Let me applaud your stupidity.majoras_wrathOh **** it's THIS case!? Wow. Yeah America you goofed. I hope other countries can follow this treaty better than you guys can other wise I feel bad for American prisoners abroad. You don't piss all over international treaties Texas. Good one  "Right, so the whole world is a left-leaning anti-death penalty liberal right? " Even North Korea follows this treaty dude.

I feel like a life in jail would be a better punishment anyways. I personally think killing someone is too immoral and too "easy" for the person being punished.

I personally think killing someone is too immoral and too "easy" for the person being punished. A life in prison costs a lot of tax payer money. So does execution by lethal injection, that's why i think a rifle would be a lot easier and cheaper :)

Well by killing him you're showing America is fine with violating international treaties and thus you're putting Americans abroad in danger. Whether you think killing criminals is right shouldn't be questioned with this particular trial because this was just a really, really dumb move. I mean I know Rick whatever his name is is a complete moron usually but this was just an awful idea.To everyone saying this an eye for an eye, it's not.

No. The whole world has an expectation that it's citizens will be referred to their respective consulates if they get in trouble in another country, which Texas failed to do in this case. Which is funny considering Texas' tendency to deport illegal immigrants anyway.I mean, hell "In 2005, President George W. Bush agreed with an International Court of Justice ruling that Leal and 50 other Mexican-born inmates nationwide should be entitled to new hearings in U.S. courts to determine if their consular rights were violated. The Supreme Court later overruled Bush."
What the hell Supreme Court?
I am glad I live in a country that doesn't have a death penalty.
That said, if your going to have one, it should be a fast one, the costs are massive.
Imagine the money that would be saved if it switched to 'at dawn' the average wait on DR in some states is 20 years, whats the point?

[QUOTE="Vesica_Prime"]True, or maybe they could have tortured him for the rest of his life, like that scene from Se7en Sounds good to me. :DShould have got life in solitary confinement instead, a quick and painless death seems too nice for him.

Why did it take 17 years for this to happen?imaps3fanboyBecause death row prisoners are legally entitled to a number of appeals through a myriad of processes, and courts take a long time to view them and answer them.
An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind...Aquat1cF1shMy most hated expression, it makes no sense and bears no relevance. I'd rather have a blind world lead by good people.
Does everyone in prison know what you're in for?I'm surprised that he wasn't killed during his incarceration by inmates.

This time, Obama and Mexico did not get their way.
