Why not listen to melodic death metal?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Not exactly sure, not a big fan of the genre. The only band i have heard was Immortal, and they were ok. I prefer progressive metal though

Because it's boring and repetitive.
I actually agree with this, ive never found metal actually entertaining.[QUOTE="Yandere"][QUOTE="RushKing"]

I actually agree with this, ive never found metal actually entertaining. Dose This sound boring to you?Half of the melodic death metal subgenre is barely even death metal. And how is black metal slow in the slightest (especially compared to melodic death metal)? It has many different forms, just like death metal (I prefer death over black and doom myself, but I love them all).
Dissection - Thorns Of Crimson Death (Melodic Black Metal)
Dimmu Borgir - In Death's Embrace (Symphonic Black Metal; newer stuff is just symphonic metal)
Marduk (just learned this song on bass; occasionally called "brutal" black metal because they started trend of having a very thick sound in black metal; I love Marduk's absolutely ridiculous lyrics and songs)
Enslaved - Path To Vanir (Progressive Black Metal)
Emperor - Into The Infinity Of thoughts (Black Metal)
1349 - Nathicana (Black Metal; occasionally called "brutal" black metal as well)
Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (Black Metal cIassic)
Not to mention the numerous other subgenres, like DSBM.
[QUOTE="Wolls"][QUOTE="Yandere"]I actually agree with this, ive never found metal actually entertaining. Dose This sound boring to you? Sorry but yes, i prefer music that is well written, has well played instraments and with someone with a good voice singing it.Because it's boring and repetitive.

To me that sounds like a bunch of people overplaying al there instraments with no actual beat or melody.
Sorry
Well all genres of music can be considered 'repetitive', it's just your perception of it. Black metal is soothing to me, it's very emotional and requires alot of emphasis on 'soul' and less on the technicality of the music (though some bands are very technical). It's not for everyone either, the vocals can be a big turn off, but I grew to like it:).
Because devil worship is COOL! I've personally never seen the appeal in it either, the only black metal band I've come close to liking was Nocturnal Breed, and my main complaint with them was that their singer was abhorrent(they would've been a good thrash band if they had a different singer judging from the three songs I heard by them), and Satanic lyrics are the point of black metal if my definition's right...=/
Sorry but yes, i prefer music that has well played instraments Wolls:lol: Yeah, might want to check what you just said. It's objectively well-played based on technical skill. There is no arguing that. There is a definitive beat as well and a melody, just not a particularly interesting one in my opinion (and one you apparently can't discern; don't worry it takes practice when it comes to this kind of music so I don't blame you).
Nope. And just about zero of the bands actually worship "Satan." The point is to bring across Neo-Pagan, Satanist (there is no worshipping "Satan" in Satanism), and past cultural ideals that have since been lost. The early bands just tried to shock, but this is how it is since the second wave of black metal in Norway (Mayhem, Darkthrone, Emperor, Immortal, Burzum, etc.).Because devil worship is COOL! Satanic lyrics are the point of black metal if my definition's right...=/

The appeal is in the strength. You cannot be a black metal musician if you're weak. The lyrics and music have to give the listener strength.

Well i never consider my opinion, fact or above anyone else's, i just personally think they overplay there instraments soo much that it ruins the song. Also IMO the singers usually have awful voices, which IMO hurts the song. Hence IMO the music is boring and doesnt entertain me in the slightist.

I havnt tried hard to find any, but i think my time would be better spent tying to find other music from genres i like insteed.
 Cradle Of Filth and Behemoth don't really belong, but great pics anyway.black metal, you say?
i like some black metal
needled24-7
I genuinely hate melo death, but like some black metal (Agalloch, Bathory, Emperor). Can't explain why, just sounds good and satisfying.Neon-TigerAgalloch is much more doom than black. I think it's just Haughm's voice that throws people off (some people hate his voice, I like it :P), but they do have a multitude of elements in their music. Emperor is some good stuff though. If you like them you should check out Nocternity and Vinterland. Two very similar, high-treble black metal bands.
Well see when i listen to metal it feels like they only want to play there instraments fast and loud, which seems to take away from the beauty that music can be, but thats just me.Wolls
I love melodic Death Metal... I like some Black Metal need to get into it a bit more tho, coz I've only recently started listenning to Black Metallike 75% of the metal heads here at GT listen to this stuff, its so slow boring and repetitive.

Black Metal is far more entertaining and great to listen than "Melodic" Death Metal.
It is harder to get into thats for sure, but once you achieve a taste for it, its something you'll love and prove rewarding for your ears.
Also, Melodic Death? No thank you, I'll stick with "Death" Metal instead...

See i liked it sorta, until the guy started singing so low that you couldnt hear him over the god awful sound that the guitar made. I think basically we look for different things when it come to music.
I dont know what you like but im more of a Alt rock mized with alot of The Beatles :)
Yeah, melodic death metal is a great stepping stone into the heavier metals, but it really isn't very entertaining once you get past the ABABCB structures and the simplistic music. There's not much atmosphere either (something a select few bands in the genre have, but not many).Black Metal is far more entertaining and great to listen than "Melodic" Death Metal.

Ah so you don't like the distortion. I think it gives it a very murky atmosphere which helps the reminiscent feel of the song perfectly. I'm mostly a metal kind of guy (obviously :P), but I listen to folk rock, progressive rock, ****cal, and electronica (darkwave/industrial being my favorite in the genre). Alt rock is sometimes okay, but it seems to be too much of a hit or miss for me so I don't listen to it very often if ever.See i liked it sorta, until the guy started singing so low that you couldnt hear him over the god awful sound that the guitar made. Because it's an offshoot of Gothic metal. So i can understand why people like it, but it's not really my style.

I started off with two bands in order to get into Death Metal, and that was simply Amon Amarth, and Deicide.
That was my stepping stone.
But even then Death Metal never turned me away when I first heard it, I loved the way it was composed along with the sound of it.
Black Metal was harder for me to get into, but once I found Bathory it simply paved the way for me...
You are so wrong with that.Because it's an offshoot of Gothic metal. So i can understand why people like it, but it's not really my style.

If you don't like a genre or can't get into it but want to you just force yourself by playing it in the background or in the car.
Think the album Loveless from My Bloody Valentine. If you don't care for shoegaze you'll probably hate it at first. Then you get used to it and you can make up your own mind. Maybe I was a little off topic.
