I started off with two bands in order to get into Death Metal, and that was simply Amon Amarth, and Deicide.

That was my stepping stone.

But even then Death Metal never turned me away when I first heard it, I loved the way it was composed along with the sound of it.

Black Metal was harder for me to get into, but once I found Bathory it simply paved the way for me...

I started with the melodic death bands everyone starts with. I hated a lot of harsher bands at first, but Behemoth, Nile, Opeth (early stuff), and Anaal Nathrakh were the four much "harder" bands that I discovered at the time and could enjoy (don't know how I got into Anaal Nathrakh so early). I skipped thrash and the NWOBHM completely as a result, and ultimately ended up skipping the first wave of black metal as well.

That said Bathory is good, but they never really clicked with me. I can enjoy the music, but it's not something I'll voluntarily listen to. For me, it was the second I found Mayhem's De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas and Emperor's In The Nightside Eclipse that I got into black metal.

Because it's an offshoot of Gothic metal. So i can understand why people like it, but it's not really my style.

All of these "dark" metal bands and songs have really really bad vocals, lyrics suck too. What happened to regular Metal like Metallica?

I dunno to be honest, I don't understand the appeal of the more extreme metal in the first place. Furtherest I go is melo death and I don't even listen to much of that.

Metallica is Thrash metal. Just look for that genre. Perhaps Pandora.com?

There is such thing as "regular" metal? I'm going to assume you don't know anything about metal.

No such thing as "Dark" Metal, and Metallica is Thrash Metal, you also sound uneducated about Metal in general...

He probably means the more extreme genres... as in death and beyond.

Metallica is a thrash band turned modern rock. They used to be okay, but even then they were the worst of the big name thrash bands (okay, maybe Anthrax was).

Death, black, and the heavier end of doom probably. I actually found death (the harder forms of it, that is; Slam Death, Brutal Death, Technical Death) to be harder to get into than black and doom.

like 75% of the metal heads here at GT listen to this stuff, its so slow boring and repetitive.

Why not listen to melodic death metal?

RushKing

to me Black Metal is more like a cult and not just a ''genre of music'' i can say this because i feel the power of its songs and identify myself to the point of a very deep bonding, the secret to most of this is the REAL underground scene that only make demos and bootlegs, withouth companies behind them or any stuff like that AT ALL. therefore all the bands i have read in this post lack completely of the true emotions that conform black metal and should NOT be recalled as identifiers of this ''genre''... sorry for my english its not that good.

My friend is this way. I don't agree with this for the sole reason that a lot of the "real underground" bands are mediocre at best. Case in point: Moonblood. There are some great bands down there too that only make demos, both in black and death metal scenes, but the majority of them are terrible.

i see your point and its pretty valid, i continue to like the same bands that i did quite a few years ago, still i can tell you, i cant get into any of that other black metal and i just feel its not strong, not true, as if they made lyrics and sounds just because they needed cash, i need REAL depression, real anger, real sadness or anything but let it be TRULY FELT. NOTHING beats the fact that im hearing a song SO fu#($* incredibly amazing, a very rare piece, with a very noble sound yet very depressive from a band i will never know nothing but a name and maybe a picture of theyr band logo not even a face, and believe me it happens, and it makes it very special, its simply inefable

It sounds good to some people? I know that's a crazy theory, but I think I might be on to something...

The atmosphere and mood it brings with bands like Burzum, Austere and Xasthur as well as the power like Mayhem, Darkthrone and Emperor.

95% of Melodeath sucks imo, very few actually interest me enough to continue listening.

I dont know man. Very few people actually like it in real life, its really an acquired taste. Its a different taste.
