This myth is not just false, it's utterly stupid. It flies against the face of all logic.
See...most animals try to AVOID getting eaten. Most animals can actually RECOGNIZE the difference between breath and wind, because THAT is what allows them to keep from getting EATEN.
For example...lots of dogs like to stick their heads out the window of a moving car. They like the feeling of the wind in their faces. Now take that same dog, and start blowing on its face. The dog doesn't like THIS very much, does it?
Spiders are EXACTLY the same way. They can recognize the difference between breath and wind, because they don't want to die. A spider can be out on a windy day, and it doesn't care. Take that same spider and gently blow on it, and watch the spider freak the **** out.
So...the myth claims that a tiny animal, an animal that doesn't want to get eaten, willfully walks right into the mouth of a huge snoring monster, and all for absolutely no damn reason.
This myth is about as fake as you can get. It's not only wrong, it doesn't even make an ounce of sense.
I've heard that statistic before, but I don't understand how they would successfully come up with that number..
bballm10
They came up with that number by pulling a random number out of their butts.
It's like if I were to tell you that 63% of people believe this myth. How did I come up with 63%? By making **** up.
Ok so ive seen on several internet sources and heard by earthat the average human will eat 8 spiders in their lifetime
IN YOUR SLEEP. they crawl into our mouths as we dream the night away.....
and for those of you who life in south america or africa, you probably will eat a TARANTULA OR TWO IN YOUR LIFETIME!
MMMMM DAMN THAT LOOKS TASTY.
so what is OT'sthoughts on this disturbing fact?

Yeah, maybe small spiders, but the spiders in your pics...give me a break. Someone would choke and wake up before swallowing something that big.
Oh God I have arachnophobia and those pictures just sent me in to a serious state of panic.

Time to get over this fear of yours then.
I'm pretty sure I've eaten bugs in my sleep. My sister once woke up with a large cockroach feeding on toothpaste residue on the edge of her mouth :S
well any spider that you would eat in your sleep would have to be small enough to fit in your nostril, so those pics arent really accrurate.
and i really dont care, theyre good for you
