Easily Kevin Smith. Kevin Smith is always hilarious and has created the best comic duo ever, Jay and Silent Bob. Not to mention his awesome dialogue, sense of humor and his ability to push the MPAA to the brink by making the most boarderline R rated movies our generation has seen. Both gross out humor, slapstick, and wit are perfected by him.

I love this guy.

I'll rate all his movies that I have seen

Clerks: 10/10
Mallrats: 8/10
Chasing Amy: 10/10
Dogma: 10/10
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back: 9/10
Jersey Girl: 7/10
Clerks 2: 10/10

I can't wait for Zack and Miri make a porno and Red State

Anyone else care to challenge me, bring it on.

Mel Brooks

or is he a producer?

If so, then I say the guy who did Djarling Limited, Royal Tenenbaums, and Rushmoore is the best.

Mel Brooks is very hit and miss, Wes Anderson is great but I don't think he's hilarious but I do like his movies

Edgar Wright, then Kevin Smith. If he didn't make Jersey Girl, KS would be tops. :P

Despite both being awesome, I don't think Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead top Clerks, Clerks 2, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Chasing Amy, oh and Mallrats

I disagree. Wright's movies seem more polished to me, and yet they still have that feel that you're in on an inside joke the whole time you are watching the movies. It's what I like about both these directors.
