Hi i haven't heard of a serious Boycott in a while and it seems like the only time they are effective is
in 3rd world countries. My questions are?

Have you or do you still Boycott?
me: Yes, Wal-Mart.

Do you Believe in not benefiting your self from the products of a company that has secret/illegal activity
or policies that are negative to the community, country even internationally? if not can you explain?

me: I don't really care about a companies products reguardless of convenience. Most definitely, i will
just find another product.

Wal-Mart is bad for America

1. Wal-Mart destroys more jobs than it creates. A new Wal-Mart destroys jobs by putting local merchants out of business. The jobs Wal-Mart creates are fewer, lower-paying and mostly part-time. (Good Jobs First)

2. Wal-Mart burdens public health care programs. Most jobs at Wal-Mart have little or no health benefits. Wal-Mart encourages its workers to seek public assistance for their health care. In Georgia, 10,000 children of Wal-Mart employees were enrolled in the public health insurance program. (NOW with Bill Moyers, AFL-CIO)

3. Wal-Mart exploits workers. The average hourly worker makes just $18,000 dollars a year. Meanwhile, in 2002, the corporation raked in $6.6 billion in profits. Wal-Mart has known for years that many of its stores violate child labor laws and state regulations requiring work breaks - but has done little, if anything, to stop it. (Mother Jones, New York Times)

4. Wal-Mart degrades the environment. The federal government charged Wal-Mart with violating the Clean Water Act in 17 locations across the country. Run-off from Wal-Mart construction sites polluted drinking water, streams and lakes. To settle the charges Wal-Mart agreed to pay a $1 million dollar fine. (EPA)

Why They're are bad:

Proponents of Wal-Mart tout their low prices - and the positive impact they have on the purchasing power of consumers. But Wal-Mart is able to provide low prices because they are heavily subsidized by taxpayers. In addition to relying on public health care for their employees, Wal-Mart has benefited from over $1 billion in economic development subsidies. (Good Jobs First)

A Better Idea:

Make corporations like Wal-Mart help pay for public assistance programs from which they benefit. Instead of providing taxpayer subsidies to Wal-Mart, invest in businesses that provide stable jobs with adequate wages and health benefits.

Why don't you boycott Best Buy, Circuit CIty, McDonalds, Home Depot, Office Max...? They're all essentially the same. The only difference is their products.
And no I don't boycott anything.

Not really. Boycotting rarely leads to anything good. Wal-Mart certainly helps more people than it hurts.

Boycotting is a pretty stupid thing to do unless you have an organized group of people to do. Walmart isn't gonna lose any sleep over 10 or 12 lost customers. A couple hundred might get there attention.

Erm..your wrong. example. all those stores you mentioned dont sell toys with led (poison) to children imported from horribly paid chinese workers (children).

WalMart is not the only store that sells children's toys...and they're not the only ones capable of selling products lined with lead. As for them using child labor.. not the only ones either. Thousands of companies use child labor to get the job done. But why is child labor the only thing that worries you? Companies also take advantage of adults.

well when you show me a big corp. that sells lead to kids like wal-mart, then maybe we can argue, but right now you are
just talking with no proof.

Here you go + the related story.
You should pay attention to the word "imported" meaning these companies (Wal Mart included) most likely had no idea their products contained lead poisoning.

Nobody's forced to work there. If conditions are so bad, you'd think they'd be undergoing a massive staff shortage.

If you boycott WalMart for the evil, illegal, secret corporation, reasons then you would pretty much have to boycott all corporations.

As another poster said, the only boycott I particpate in is Citgo.

Oh, and the chineese worker children aren't slaves, they just need the jobs so they don't have to go into prostitution to provide for their families. >__>

Instead of providing taxpayer subsidies to Wal-Mart, invest in businesses that provide stable jobs with adequate wages and health benefits.

that wal-mart puts 30-40 people out of a job, but adds 200...

Why don't you boycott Best Buy, Circuit CIty, McDonalds, Home Depot, Office Max...? They're all essentially the same. The only difference is their products.
And no I don't boycott anything.DeeJayInphinity
They really arent, thats an uneducated response. Take Best Buy for example, health care, and wages are statistically higher there than they are at Wal-Mart.
