Please don't decide based on your italian or irish heritage. I'm neither but still love both films.
Which did you enjoy more?

i thought that the departed was a much more intense film. your constantly on edge aboutwhether decaprio's character will get caught. plus matt damon was perfectly cast for his role. i always thought thathe played weasle that would do anything to progress better than a good guy.
Definitely Goodfellas...
...but neither is as anywhere near as good as The Godfather. Godfather is the absolute best mob/gangster movie EVER.
I think Once Upon a Time in America is at least a competitor for that title.Definitely Goodfellas...

I never saw Once Upon a Time in America, but if it's anywhere near as good as The Godfather, I must see it.
Goodfellas and Casino are both better than The Departed.
Sorry but no one can do Mafioso films like Robert DeNiro, Joe Peschi, and friends.
But I will give The Departed some credit, it was a decent movie.
I chose The Departed mainly because the story was just so exciting and supenseful. And I loved the dialogue (same with Goodfellas). If you ever wanna check out the original chinese film it was based on, it's called "Infernal Affairs". It was so popular in China that they released 2 sequels in the same year. Haha.
And don't forget about Mark Whalburg and Alec Balwin's performances. I love every seen that they're in.

I thought Infernal Affairs was good -- it was short and to the point. Tony Leung is one of my favorite actors.

DeNiro, Peschi, and friends (Soprano cast, haha) are very good indeed. But the term "Mafioso" refers to Italian mobs. I liked how The Departed broke away from this theme since it's been sooo overdone in Hollywood.
I'd like to see more gangster movies come out that show all sides of organized crime. Not just the Italian Mafia.
What is The Departed about ?Whight_KnightThese two hobos travel to a land of magic talking hot dogs, and they have to save them from Michael Moore and restore the mustard supply. At the climax, they eat all the hot dogs and are proclaimed ruler of Hot Dogania.

lmao!
The Departed. I thought the entire cast did such a great job. I loved that DiCario and Damon were basically mirror images of each other, even though they lived as drastically different lives as could be. The psychologist did a great job and I thought added a more interesting twist to the Damon/DiCaprio dynamic.
Nicholson was, as usual quite a badda**, and was someone you wanted to go down. Keeping the suspense high as he came closer to finding DiCaprio.
The supporting actors were all great as well, Whalberg, Baldwin and Martin Sheen all did a good job in getting the viewer invested in each of them as well.
I felt one scene at the end (elevator) was a bit of a let down, or maybe it could just have been handled better.
I haven't seen The Departed but if it's anything like the Chinese original then I gonna go with that choice. I thoroughly like Infernal Affairs and it was an awseome story.
I have seen Goodfella's and it's one of my all time favourite movies, I just love the dialogue in it and the whole world of the mafia within the movie.
"Do you think I'm funny" love that scene in goodfella's
