Ironically I hate the morning drive time most of all.....too much talk and personalties thinking they are funny.Tell me about it! obviously you guys arent listening to the black stations lol[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]
[QUOTE="Jandurin"] It'd be interesting to hear you be a radio personality. Do you talk and joke and stuff with your listeners? Do you ever wonder what things they smile at and what they frown at? It's an interesting job. I assume I'm getting your job right?Teenaged

Well, I work the Middays 10am to 2pm. I'm on right after the Morning guy... who definitely talks too much.
I use that to my advantage and try to get at least 10 songs on each hour... as many as 14 on some days. And we have a broad representation of music for a country station. A lot of them don't go back much further than 1990... but we got as far back as the 60s. And we feature new artists all the time. We've even helped some new artists get more airplay nationally by giving them a start here. That's a good feeling.
I try to keep it light and fun... today I talked about how one artist is trying to Fight Tyranny, how two artists are completely unrelated despite having the exact same name and how confusing that must be, and a lot about local concerts and big local events coming up.
I mostly stay away from Pop Culture stuff (i haven't talked about Octomom and I won't talk about Chris Brown).
Listeners have said that I'm pleasant and funny... which is what I'm going for. I just try to make my listeners longest part of the day move along faster.
I try to speak to them one to one. So if you're listening then I'm talking to YOU, not everyone. It's like a conversation, where I'm doing all the talking for the most part (I've been told that I'm like that in real life, too...ha).
Not any black stations where I live. :P (not as far as I know) WHAT !?, omg racism ! *calls jesse jackson & al sharpton* get ready to get a black station sir[QUOTE="Euroshinobi"]

A black station is welcome, as long as it doesn't play hip-hop/rap exclusively :P (I know that sounded stereotypical but...)Anyway there are not many blacks here.

The only time I listen to the radio is on the way to school every morning. There's a radio show that I like listening to, and there's a song maybe every 10 minutes.

the main problem with morning shows is that it's viewed as the most important day part, so all advertisers want to have their commercials between 6am and 10am. salesmen for the stations know this, and can convince a tough client to advertise by offering them time in this slot... and preferred customers ask for it all the time.
as a result... everything ends up being sponsored! This traffic update brought to you by... this weather update brought to you by... this show brought to you by.. and with each mention often comes a commercial.
by the time the sales staff get done, there's only time for 6 - 8 songs... and then you get DJs who think they're more important than the music and they eat up another 8 minutes of music with talk. Bah!
honestly, it's the one part of radio that really needs to change. with most people listening during the morning, i really wish they would give a better first impression. if you want more music, less talk, try after 10am. you'll find that 10am until 2pm has the most music during the day on most stations... with evenings after 6 or 7 having the most overall.

and when i say black station i dont mean they just play black artist xD they play white artist to, white artist with a black sound, Like robin thicke, or christina aguilera in other words "blue eyed soul singers"Alright, so the first thing said by the TC is that he enjoyed listening to the DJs on the morning show on his FM radio, right? Now, I bet that's because those DJs were able to relate to you in a personal manner, and made you feel important. They talked about the world, but related it in a way that made you feel included. You know why they can do that? because they're local. Satellite radio has a wider variety of music, true... but it can't possibly be as personal because it all comes from a few select cities across the country. It will never relate to you personally... so if you want to hear about a big concert event in your city or about a traffic delay on your commute, FM is still the best.
Satellite radio is fighting for it's life right now. Both Sirius and XM are looking for buyers right now, and may go under before 2010. Listenership is higher than expected for Satellite... but keep in mind that a lot of people get it for free with a new car. How many people will pay $250/year when something similar is available for free?
the fact that Top 40 is so popular is NOT the fault of radio exclusively. Radio goes where the money is... and money is made by getting the biggest portion of the listeners. the more listeners a station has, the more it can charge for it's commercials (and the more commercials it'll sell). So basically, if the average listener wanted more alternative music, more alternative music stations would exist.
There is a movement in a format called Triple-A right now (AAA = Adult Album Alternative). They play a lot of lesser known music, mixed in with the hits. It's really taking off in Canada right now, with 7 new stations in the format starting this year.
As a music director in radio, it's a struggle. I have to balance the hits with what's cool and new. If I only play the latest music, I'll scare off a lot of listeners... who will then turn to my competitors for their fix of The Hits. And I'll lose my job. But I love new music... so I put in as much new as I can, which is less than I'd like, but more than most.
TV stations in smaller communities are shutting down across Canada right now, in part because of the economy. And guess who's picking up the slack? Radio. Like us or not, Radio is going to be around for years to come.

Actually they are based out of ohio and im in memphis:| Also they dont really relate to me at all, i just find thier show to be very funny.
what station did they use to be on?shoeman12WKRK 97.1 The Ticket. First they were the afternoon drive show and eventually were moved to mornings. They decided not to renew their contract because they couldn't agree with management on the contract length. They were off the air for one year due to a non-compete clause and now they're back on WCSX mornings.

but that's not really the point. if i was in Seattle, would I really care what people from Memphis have to say? would they be able to tell me about the forecast for the day, the road report or what i should go and do this weekend? and if they just happened to take the time to actually do that (which would never happen) listeners in every other city wouldn't care.
variety of music is Satellite's main strength, but DJ content can be its main weakness.

I had heard in an interview of hers that that album was trying to capture the feel of old blues music. I got interested but never got to search further. I will sure now. Thanks a lot for the info. ;)[QUOTE="elfimis"]
