I just took a Google Street View tour of the neighborhood I spent the first 18 years of my life. MY CITY WAS GONE! Everything's changed. Even the school across the street from my house that I spent my elementary years in is in ruins (I was in the last 6th grade class before it closed down in 1989). There are houses where I never thought they'd put houses. The forest is gone, completely cleared. My old house has been completly remodeled and *gasp* the driveway paved. The barn on the hill is gone. There are trees where there used not to be trees and no trees where there used to be trees. It's not the same place.
The old arcade I used to hang out at is gone. The grocery store where I had my first job as been tore down and a bigger grocery store built in it's place, but oddly facing 90 degrees from the first store. There's a bridge where my dentist used to be. There's a McDonalds where my friends house used to be and a Walgreens at another.
You can never go home again. Oh, time, you cruel **** you.
Maybe that's why music is so nostalgic: a song never changes.
I know most of you aren't as old as I, but do you have any old haunts that have fallen to the steady march of progress?
