the third best debut in history this weekend, with $155 million.
Hot damn.

Batman 3 will top them all~CptJSparrowGiven that this is the first film in the franchise, the next film will gross even higher than this one. I can see it getting to the number one spot.
Very solid movie. The Dark Knight is definitely the best movie on that list though. I expect The Dark Knight Rises to top everything and the sequel to the Hunger games (Catching Fire) to get about the same. Its a good franchise and certainly deserves that spot more than Spiderman 3 and the Twilight movies. Its kinda nice to see that the top 3 no longer has a garbage movie in it.

So.... they doubled their money in a day? That's something. They're going to get very wealthy off of this movie. I'm already hearing a lot of people planning on going to see it twice.
I was surprised to see this have such a good mark on RottenTomatoes, I automatically wrote it off just because it seemed to be hyped by the Twilight crowdJML897Huh, maybe it's worth seeing.

Read 3 chapters of the book, if you don't like it write it off. If you do, finish it and see the movie.
Reading the book makes the movie better.

Yeah, I probably won't see it in theaters but the RT score interested me enough to at least give it a shot eventually.
I'll wait a couple months for when it's on Netflix.
Will watch a couple weeks down the line when the theaters are empty.Pirate700
I wish Netflix would really get their act together with streaming content. It would nice to just sit down and watch it instead of waiting for it to come in the mail.
My wife plans to see it maybe a few more times. I was disappointed with the movie. I thought it was still good, but I've read the books and felt like they didn't catch some of the main aspects of the story.quikdash6That how films that were originally books always seem to be.
Not interested, I'm waiting for:
-The Avengers
-Prometheus
-The Dark Knight Rises
-The Hobbit Pt. 1
Personally, I think The Hobbit Pt. 1 will top everything this year.
I am a fan of the books so to anyone who has seen it, is it accurate? I'm worried about it a little, the movie is PG-13 which tellsme they cut out alot of stuff, if they went straight from the books it would have gotten an R rating.
They also made Kathness and Peeta older in the film, which is understandable given that it would be hard to watch 12 year olds getting their necks snapped.

They keep the ages accurate. Peeta and Katniss are 17 (or was it 16?) like they were in the books. Rue is the only 12 year old, and she is 12 in the movie.
Its one of the most accurate movies I have seen, sometimes to its downfall. You can't read Katniss' mind in the movie. The dialogue gets pulled straight from the book and every major scene is in it. The gore is toned down imo, but its there enough where it isn't a problem.

I don't understand why, Twilight and Hunger Games are NOTHING alike! Not even close in their ideas or designs, Twilight is about a sh!tty teenage romance that only 15 year old girls will understand or care about,
Hunger Games is about Government taking the youth away form children through war and combat, it portrays ideas, Twilight does not.
they do cut down and compress a lot of it. And katniss and peeta were never 12... I think they were always 16/17... It's rue who's 12, and she's still the same in the movie. Oh my bad, I haven't read it in awhile, so I may have forgotten some details. But I think they got Effie right in the film, I was watching the trailer and Effie is exaclty how I imagined her in the books. So I guess I'll give the movie a chance.
I'm just worried that it was going to be watered down for a mass audeince. The Hunger Games isn't a family friendly story, and there seemed to be alot of people hyping the movie up as if it were.

Yeah but given that this is the first film in its franchise, and the book series isn't a wild runaway Harry Potter style success (though still very popular), this is pretty insane news.

Well my 10 year old cousin certainly liked the book :P
Its sorta watered down, but not severely. Its not incredibly brutal, but you see bloodied faces and limbs, its not absent. I will say they didn't exploit their PG-13 rating, but they earned it.
And they absolutely nailed Effie.

The scene with the tracker jackers sent shivers up my spine. That scene definitely pushed the PG-13 rating. The movie was good. (certainly not perfect) Dark Knight Rises and the Hobbit will completely destroy this but I hope the sequel comes soon.

Haven't read the books, but I'd get the feeling you're going to be disappointed. The action was real light, as was the violence and gore. Which I thought was incredibly counterproductive for a premise that involves throwing a group of adolescents into a last man standing bloodsport. Deaths in the game itself were mostly 'bloodless' so to speak and void of suffering pain and misery, it didn't do any favors in trying to (at least to me) get the viewer emotionally invested.
How Rue became so emotionally important to Katniss is not explained in the movie, making her death feel awkward and out of place.
The movie honestly felt like a series of missed opportunities. Could've been much better than it was.

It's like what happened with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo -- the books are poorly written but the story itself is pretty good, so by adapting it into a movie you sort of naturally lose the worst elements while keeping the better parts intact.
The Avengers actually garners the least interest out of all those for me. :oops:Not interested, I'm waiting for:
-The Avengers-Prometheus
-The Dark Knight Rises
-The Hobbit Pt. 1
