A "fiction" war movie with flying unicorns shooting rainbows out of their collective arses is stupid. Regardless of the fact that it's fiction and not documentary, the movie needs to make sense and be realistic. I wish people would stop saying "lol fiction is not realistic, OP ur dumb".

The movie makes sense, and so what if it isnt totally realistic. It is realistic enough for me to a point where the unrealistic aspects dont distract me. I dont care if it doesnt go hugely in depth with the bomb disarming, but it showed it to a point where it is interesting to watch. It is more about the characters anyway. Most war films are not realistic but I dont care as long as they are enjoyable. I only care about realism if it is very distracting an apparent that the film isnt realistic. If it doesn detract from the film though I dont care.

A Serious Man is clearly the best film of the ones nominated.

Film-Guy

Gross. What do you love so much about A Serious Man?

I loved how dark and bleak the humor was. Larry, and Sy abelman were great characters and I loved how it was kinda like a retelling of the book of job. It is everything that I love about the Coen Brothers. Fantastic dialogue, great characters and humor. Probably my favorite Coen brothers film next to Barton fink. The only dark comedy in 2009 that I liked as much was Bad Lieutenant: Port of call new orleans. Nicholas Cage should have been nominated, he was brilliant. May I ask what you didnt like about a Serious Man?

The 'gross' part was a joke.:P I actually liked it a lot, I just wasn't blown away. I agree with pretty much all your comments about it though, I guess I just didn't connect with it quite as much. Barton Fink is tied with Miller's Crossing as my favorite Coen brothers'. I really need to see Bad Lieutenant, I'm a huge Herzog fan.

The amount of flaws in this movie's realism may as well be counted as plot holes. They are pretty huge and numerous.

If you didn't like it, fair enough, but to claim that its the WORST movie of the year is a blatant attempt at trolling. So in short, GTFO troll.

I didnt notice any that detracted from the film.

You're just attacking an Oscar nominated movie because you want your thread to garner attention. How am I supposed to debate an opinion like that? :?

It wasn't a bad movie, just incredibly overrated. The story is weak and the situations increasingly ridiculous. However, it does immerse you into a sense of place quite well and there are a lot of little details that suggest the dangers faced.

WolfattheDoor34

Then again, you found it overwhelmingly patriotic and completely misunderstood the film.

lol, who the **** are you? You clearly didn't read what I wrote properly. I never said it was 'overwhelmingly' patriotic. I found some scenes to be self-righteous, with slight patriotism and I said American audiences had a more patriotic connection to it because its their war. Not ours (Australia). Don't tell me I misunderstood something because I interpreted it differently to the rest of the sheep, got it?

 You really can't pull off that tone.

...thinly veiled patriotism...Bigelow begins to view the character of Will with self-righteousness, having him try to track down the family of a little boy who he believes was used as a suicide bomber...

This is an action film...Perhaps it is the focus and appraisal of the heroics of a US soldier which provides a more emotional and patriotic connection for American audiences...biggest_loser

These are all complete misconceptions. If you think it's an action film, you didn't understand it.

I'm confident in my opinion, no matter how much you mock it or tell me I'm wrong. Given that the narrative is largely devised from a series of climaxes it is fair to call it an action movie. Also, I'm pretty sure the LA Times also referred to it as a full tilt action movie.

One day I hope that you will grow up because I really find it quite rude the way you've discussed this with me. I mean, why do you have to add in the emoticons to make it seem like I'm a joke to you? I really don't appreciate that. Is it necessary? Just because I thought about it differently to you.

It looked bad before I watched it, but since so many said it was so good, I gave in. I watched it. It sucked. Totally way too unrealistic. Of course, this is just my opinion. I still want to know why so many think it is so good.

If you saw the movie, and thought it was good, please tell me why.

Your opinion only matters if you are actually in the military and know how realistic it is

Then my opinion matters. The Hurt Locker is the first serious attempt at making an OIF movie that I have seen yet. Sure, you had Home of the Brave, but that was focused more on the stories of returning soldiers rather than the war as it is in Iraq. Because of this, many people look to this movie to provide them with insight on what happens on a day to day basis for your average joe with boots on the ground. The Hurt Locker fails in this aspect because the plot is so far-fetched and so unrealistic it projects nothing authentic. Im not trying to troll. I just couldn't understand how anybody could think that this movie was any good. I have come to the conclusion that The Hurt Locker should be lucky that ignorance is bliss.
