It is not that hard to understand. At the very least you need to have a high school diploma, or the equivalent.

People might not finish high school, and start going to community college instead, but all that means is that they are getting the equivalent of their high school diploma somewhere else.

Unless you are an entrepeneur extraordinaire, and can work the internet like nobody's business, you are going to be applying for jobs that will like you to have a high school diploma. They might hire you without one, but your chances of advancement are going to be severely limited. You might be able to get a job at Best Buy without graduating high school, but most likely, you will never be the manager of the store without a diploma.

Anyways, success is subjective. I've recently cured my half a decade long depression through my OWN method, because I'm super cool. I've reached the point of not needing a lot of money. I don't even need this computer. However, a computer and some games and TV wouldn't hurt, but you don't need a lot for that. Of course, for the average person, with their hormones, they would need things to be happy. My logic has overcome my hormones, finally, and now, I can live at peace, realizing that it really doesn't matter... Of course, enlightenment is a difficult journey(5 years for me!). But once you achieve, simple living is not far away. MGS4, GTAIV, FFXIII, TV, Movies, the Interwebs = Happiness, and a few friends wouldn't hurt. And I don't do drugs either! So I actually did cure it, I'm not high. I'm going to be like a Buddha one day, super happy. I don't even care about sex! ZOMG!

A college degree is necessary....and high school has to be completed in order to attend college...so graduating high school is important.

LJS9502_basic

I havn't seen any of the Ivy Leagues actually require that you have a High School diploma to get in to them.

Community college? That's such a pathetic form of schooling. If it doesnt require a highschool degree its not a good college. I guess most people cant get into university.

But why not get your high school diploma? You don't even have to apply yourself, and you can pass.

I used to feel the same way, but you're wrong. While it's not the greatest to just get an associates, using community college as a starting point to get into college is a great idea. Plenty of people go this route to get into their state's flagship school (Berkeley, UCLA, Florida, Michigan, etc.) or to get into top private schools.

The idea that you need a high schoo diploma in life is pure BS. The only thing that's good with it is to get into a university. Other than that, it's completely useless. Once you get some sort of college degree a high school diploma automatically becomes useless. And even that, not all colleges require a high school diploma. At certain community colleges, you can just start going there, get an Associate's Degree, then transfer to a 4 year university and just get a bacholer's. Once you get a bachelor's, a high school diploma is automatically useless. Your thoughts?

jerico6

my thought is everyone wastes 12 years of their life without realising it. people can learn more from a day at the library than 12 years of public school

It's not really that you need a high school degree to get a good job. The problem is that someone who doesn't have a high school degree would probably have some trouble in college. There are some who wouldn't of course, but they are the exception.

That's not true. If you have a GED. You can attend community college(With more money needed), then a university after.

Community college isn't exactly high on the list of great education. And the rules vary.....not all of them accept GED's.

Well, you can go to a University after the community college. But that's true. Not all of them accept. I'm not saying I recommend to NOT graduate High School. But you can certainly succeed without doing so, although it will be more difficult, you still have a chance to succeed. Of course, it might take longer, and some smarts too, since you might have not learned all that Junior and Senior High School stuff, so you might need to be prepared, lots of studying.

At my community college, your allowed to take courses that are at high school level so you can gain the skills necessary to do college work.

Oh...

The one I went to had those classes too. They were called remedial...

A high school diploma is important. You learn the skills you need to succeed in college and avoid those remedial classes (which do not count towards your degree but cost you the same amount of money and time as a regular class). You can also "skip" community college and go straight to a major 4 year university.

Yes.When it comes to the field of arts however, it's not as much of an issue. Since they typically view the material as the application, thus if the material is good, it doesn't matter what you've done, since you're clearly good. Of course, arts are much more complicated to excell in, studying alone doesn't make a good song, book, or script. That's why it is the land of drug users and Scientologists.

The unemployment rates for people with high school diplomas are extremely low, especially in comparison to the unemployment rates of those without one. Also, the average person with a highschool diploma and no further educationmakes a vastly larger sum of money yearly than those who do not have one. Those who attend college make even larger sums. Define "success". Because success in the sense of a good home, high paying job, and early retirement is practically impossible for people without one, unless they just get lucky.
