Dear Americans,

Hello my name is the letter 'u' I am writing to your great nation regarding your attitude to towards myself and my use (or lack-of) in words such as, 'honor,' behavior,' 'color' etc. Why do you feel the need to leave me out so callously!? I mean what did i do to you!? And what did my arch-enemy, the letter 'o' do to deserve its admission!?(I'll get him though.....him and his upper-case father of his.) I really hope you can find it in your hearts to find a place for me in the aforementioned words and end this predujice 'BEHAVIOUR', I would be truly grateful.

with regards,

your familiar letter

'u'

U, Didn't you know? Us Americans are fat, lazy and stupid. Adding an extra letter requires too much thought, and physical exertion while typing or writing.

Besides, you are just a glorified O with it's head cut off.

Sincerely yours,

If a letter can't pull it's weight then **** off. We must always get rid of pork-barrel spelling.

I'm sorry u, but things changed. I got a little drunk at that party, and o was making some moves on me, and I had to make a choice. I have nothing against you, honestly.

More like what's up with the English not keeping up w/ the times? Things change. More English speakers in the world spell the word Color w/o the U, so why dont you just adapt and quit all this elitism.

My favourite letter in the whole wide world is the honourable letter 'u'.

And although 'zed' is my pronunciation of choice, Dragonball Zed just doesn't sound the same at all.

the letter u has more than made up for this dishonor by eradicating the 'y' and 'o' from the word "you" on the internets.

Dear U,

Quite frankly U, us Americans find your use in words such as honor and color to be superfluous, I mean honor is not pronounced honor, no need for a u in there at all, heck the u is basically silent, same deal with color. And it's be-hav-ior not be-hav-iour, it just doesn't make sense.

Also, if you harm our dear friend O, we may be forced to invade, and/or occupy your homeland as well as threaten to use nuclear weapons.

Thank You for Understanding,

The American People.

Dear America,

This is the letter e and fully support my fellow vowel in this struggle. I'm also very angry at your nation for favouring the letter "a" over myself such as in "gray" and sometimes you chose to ignore me altogether! If you do not cease this insulting behaviour, me and my fellow vowel will be forced to take further action.

Yours sincerely, e.

I find that dubious. While the American population is larger than the UK and ROI most European English speakers learn the Queen's English. Not sure about the Australians.

The reason it is left out of the spellings of many words is actually rather simple.

During the period of colonization of America, the British spelled things much the same way we did (i.e. no unnecessary u's). However, at the end of the 18th century, there was a movement amongst the intellectual elite to insert a flair of Frenchness into the English language. Thus, the unnecessary u was born.

It's true.

LOL i love it when people say it like that because it makes them sound so retarded and in the word ALUMINIUM the I is necissary as it changes the word if you leave it out. Also most americans cant even pronounce the letter u properly in words such as jaguar (pronounced jag-you-ar not jag-wah).

It's something that has always annoyed me.

The way Americans butcher the English language.

The lack of "U" in many words is just one of them.

The pronounciation of such words as basil, oregano & herbs also.

It's pronounced Herbs, not 'erbs because it starts with a ******* "H"!

Shudder
