what?! thats news to me. Then again I haven't been paying that close of attention. I guess they had to get rid of somthing
nope, no optical drive, bad tiny hard drive, can't add more ram, can't replace your own battery, and its a mac. you pay a couple thousand when you could get a windows based laptop that you can customize that has much better specs for a fraction of the cost.shoeman12Actually the hard drive (ssd version) is pretty nice for a laptop and i wouldn't really put this thing into that category of Laptop, it's like some new type of computer with all it's wirelessness.

And hell, if you wanted to, you could even install Mac OSX on the laptop you built at a fraction of a cost. The MacBook Air just isn't worth $1700. Without a optical drive, no upgradable RAM, and a non-user replaceable battery (standard in every Apple product, mind you) the MacBook Air is complete rubbish.

the solid state drive is fast yes, but its much more expensive and to me not worth it. i'd wait a few years until it comes down in price. but what i meant was the normal hard drive (theres a version with a normal hard drive) which is smaller than a standard laptop hard drive and tha amount of ssd is too little.

Got to agree with you there...the question is then...are we ready for this new generation of a computer?
[QUOTE="Kritical_Strike"]It installes software from another Mac. That's right, you are pretty much required to have another MAC around, just to have the Air book. No thanks.Ilived
So it's like an iPod.
In a way, but it's silly to require a computer to have another computer. I guess people want to look sleek when they sit down to update their blog in starbucks

No. Because it's not a new generation at all. It's merely a ultrathin notebook. Even Apple claim it's no more than that.It installes software from another Mac. That's right, you are pretty much required to have another MAC around, just to have the Air book. No thanks.Kritical_Strike
Not just a Mac...a PC that has wireless as well.

Whoopty doo. The MacBook Air is still rubbish.

Actually, the cons outweight the pros here. Are you really willing to pay a thousand bucks or more (even with a price drop, Apple's too greedy to settle for anything less than that) for a device that will break within a couple of years? If so, be my guest. If not, then, well, you know.

I'm not that person?Okay. Who is "that person"?
Apple always sacrifices the necessities to make their products look good which is why I don't buy Apple products.stevenk4k5
Aint that the truth

Yeah it's like that Quad-Core mac they're selling. They just make these things for publicity, and because there's always some rich dude willing to blow some cash on useless hardware.
The Air doesn't replace the regular MacBook. It's just another option. If you want a CD drive, buy the MacBook. :|SolidSnake35Then there's no point in getting a MacBook Air when you could easily get a MacBook for less. If anything, it's a more expensive downgrade.

The Air is lighter and slimmer. That's the whole point of it. If you need that extra portability and don't mind the cons, the Air is an option. Anyway, I don't see the big deal. I've used my CD drive about ten times in a year, for ripping my music CDs.

I really mean it.
So do I...someone who sees Air as more of an advantage than disadvantage...and you have to admit that is just not you!

The Macbook Air isn't that much more convenient. It's only a couple pounds lighter. Okay, but let's face it. It's cooler and people will buy into that.
