nope, no optical drive, bad tiny hard drive, can't add more ram, can't replace your own battery, and its a mac. you pay a couple thousand when you could get a windows based laptop that you can customize that has much better specs for a fraction of the cost.

Actually the hard drive (ssd version) is pretty nice for a laptop and i wouldn't really put this thing into that category of Laptop, it's like some new type of computer with all it's wirelessness.

And hell, if you wanted to, you could even install Mac OSX on the laptop you built at a fraction of a cost. The MacBook Air just isn't worth $1700. Without a optical drive, no upgradable RAM, and a non-user replaceable battery (standard in every Apple product, mind you) the MacBook Air is complete rubbish.

yeah i think its ridiculous. Apple shouldnt try to put design over usability, even though, so far every product they have come out with is pretty much awesome, until now.

I am now convinced that Apple has absolutely no common sense. I find it hard to believe that a whole company can have absolutely no design philosophy and get this far. The fact that Apple makes their things look nice has gotten them quite far.

It installes software from another Mac. That's right, you are pretty much required to have another MAC around, just to have the Air book. No thanks.

the solid state drive is fast yes, but its much more expensive and to me not worth it. i'd wait a few years until it comes down in price. but what i meant was the normal hard drive (theres a version with a normal hard drive) which is smaller than a standard laptop hard drive and tha amount of ssd is too little.

In a way, but it's silly to require a computer to have another computer. I guess people want to look sleek when they sit down to update their blog in starbucks

No. Because it's not a new generation at all. It's merely a ultrathin notebook. Even Apple claim it's no more than that.

Yup, that's why i'd wait also, i remember buying an early dvd player and a year or two later they were 50-75% cheaper. ^__^

Actually, the cons outweight the pros here.

Are you really willing to pay a thousand bucks or more (even with a price drop, Apple's too greedy to settle for anything less than that) for a device that will break within a couple of years? If so, be my guest. If not, then, well, you know.

Yeah it's like that Quad-Core mac they're selling. They just make these things for publicity, and because there's always some rich dude willing to blow some cash on useless hardware.

Then there's no point in getting a MacBook Air when you could easily get a MacBook for less. If anything, it's a more expensive downgrade.

The Air is lighter and slimmer. That's the whole point of it. If you need that extra portability and don't mind the cons, the Air is an option. Anyway, I don't see the big deal. I've used my CD drive about ten times in a year, for ripping my music CDs.
