I'm older than most people here, but usually it seemed as if that didn't make much difference - a lot of young people have some very interesting ideas, they're smart and make good points. Once in a while they'll say something that borders on the profound. But the first page of topics this morning...good grief. It's like hanging out on the playground of an elementary school.
I think the problem is that in real life, if you say something really stupid, your friends give you crap about it and you get the idea that maybe you shouldn't say such stupid crap any more, because these are your friends and you want to be respected by them. But on the internet you're anonymous and there are so many people here that it doesn't matter if tons of people call you an idiot, so people just prattle on and on and post moronic topic after moronic topic. If you can get 3 people out of 100 to agree with you, you're successful, while in real life you'de be a horrible failure.
I dunno, maybe it's just a bad day here or something.
Somewhat... On one hand there isn't that many good topics, on the other hand at least we can talk about sex
Every year, people post that OT is far worse than it has been, but I think this is our finest hour. Religion, guns, global warming, girlfriend help threads, etc. What else could someone want? This stuff is fantastic.
1: Trolling has become the super cool thing to do for the kids
2: There is now a pretty sizeable clique who encourage trolling, especially if its in OT
3: The rules are now so lax that the kids can troll without being suspended/banned, even though their trolling is of horrible quality, and the ones that usually laugh with them, are the ones that feel they are socially obligated to laugh with their "friends", regardless of the quality (or lack thereof) of the joke, re-inforcing the trollers motivation for next time, and the motivation for the "supporters" to take center stage themselves next time, as to receive the same kind of recognition.
Because quite honestly this is life for some people around here, its their social outlet, hence traditional social rules begin to apply even though we may not have seen that kind of phenomena beforehand
4: quite a few tdh/ot regulars are gradually coming around to the conclusion that entertainment, regardless of how it is obtained, is the ideal, whereas they used to participate in intellectual discourses before more often, or at the very least; shun flagrant idiocy
5: which again inspires the kids to follow in their footsteps, since the regs are cool
6: inconsistent administrative leadership on gamespots part, too many mixed signals, too many weird nonsensical rules
etc etc, i could point out a hundred things, so seemingly in trend with a lot of other things in life, the answer lies at the bottom of a near infinite conglomerate of clusterf*cks, which makes a valid attempt at pointing finger towards any culprit pretty much impossible
which is why idgaf and you should too

Nothing worse than hearing people complain about a site they still visit. If you truly think the site is that terrible, stop visiting. So many users bit?h about the state of OT but still post here everyday. Gives me the irrits

Do you have a recommendation for another site to join? GameSpot with the old TOU was just right for me, are there any similar gaming sites?[QUOTE="Pikdum"]
My IQ has degraded greatly over the countless hours wasted here. And yet I keep coming back. :|

Ehh, I've complimented the thought, but it will be a bother and too much an effort on my part. I'd rather slowly being turned off from the site than lie to myself or hide its miserable state. Please Log In to post.
