Progressive Rock/Metal. Any debating that?

Classical...avant-garde jazz, fusion jazz, and yes some forms of metal/rock can be very complex/technical as well.
Classical really isn't that complex, there might be a lot of preperation to it and a lot of people playing at the same time. But the end result isn't too great
Maybe, but if you listened to some Dream Theater. Progressive metal. The complexity of it is insane.
Probably classical music. I think I would make a good conductor because I'm good at flailing my arms around. :P
When you are managing and creating music with so many people and instruments at once, it's sure as hell complicated, whether you like the music or not.Classical really isn't that complex, there might be a lot of preperation to it and a lot of people playing at the same time. But the end result isn't too great

Electronic. The music itself does not make any sense whatsoever. You need to be extremely talented and innovative in order to produce something amazing. Also, the way they mix stuff, I dunno but it feels different.

Electronic is a very broad term, however it's much to do with production and sound engineering. Also you can automate a lot of effects with certain tools so what may sound complex may have simply been generated by the program you're using, or even a sample which you can **** around with to sound nothing like its original form.
Certain electronic music really only makes sense when played on a large rig whilst you're 'under the influence' as well. In a lounge setting it may be pointless, but in a club it all comes together...

I would say he makes fairly straightforward music - he used to be able to knock out several tunes in a day no problem. He's talented no doubt - genius to many - but not one recognised for the complexity of his productions...
As big a Dream Theater fan as I am I have to disagree, at least with all their stuff dating from Train of Thought to present. Images and Words was quite technical, on the other hand. If you wanna talk about insane technical progressive metal, talk BTBAM. Either way, I'm pretty sure jazz is the most complex form of music...Maybe, but if you listened to some Dream Theater. Progressive metal. The complexity of it is insane.

Well I certainly don't know much about Music and its production and I don't have any experience with clubs, instruments...etc. I really really enjoy Rokysopp and Daft Punk. Royksopp brings something different inside of me.Classical really isn't that complex, there might be a lot of preperation to it and a lot of people playing at the same time. Classical music spans so many decades and is so varied that it would make the sub-genres of Rock blush, and you seem to be lumping the entire genre together as if what you say for one piece qualifies for another. A lot of classical music is that complex.Classical really isn't that complex, there might be a lot of preperation to it and a lot of people playing at the same time. Well, it depends on your opinion of whats sophisticated.
Baroque/classical/romantic pieces had a huge range of difficulty, so you cant really pin those down. They were hard to play, but the music theory behind them wasn't all that complicated. A lot of composers used the same "tricks".
There are a lot of bands today (atleast that I listen to)thathave sophisticatedarrangements, but aren't technically demanding to play.ex. Radiohead, The Killers...
I consider a piece sophisticated depending on if there are accidentals, chords/notes outside of a key, how the melody works with the harmony... Is the rhythm tricky, isthe harmonymulti-layered ect.

What does how great it is have to do with how complex it is?
It seems rather evident to me that coordinating dozens of instruments to bring them together to make a cohesive whole is most certainly more complex than music with only a few instruments.

+1 as far as musical complexity and technicality jazz and classical really rule the roost.
it is up to the composer to make the song "complex"genre really has nothing to do with it.

You see, Jazz is "complicated" because of all the time signature changes and accidentals; but I just dont find a majority of jazz to be all that interesting. From a theory standpoint it is, but in listening it's too much. Going from 4/4 to 7/4 to 6/8 to 12/16 sounds cool on paper, but it just doesnt work for me. Please explain how a progressive metal song performed by four or five musicians can be more complex than this.
You're hurting the musical portion of my brain right now.Classical really isn't that complex, there might be a lot of preperation to it and a lot of people playing at the same time. But the end result isn't too great

Technical death (the good stuff like Gorguts) makes that stuff look simple.Maybe, but if you listened to some Dream Theater. Progressive metal. The complexity of it is insane.

Is that avatar of yours a troll like thing? It's a whole lot of similar sounding instruments all playing together. It's all just so similar.

Simple! In every way, clearly the piece is technically easier than chopsticks and musically inferior.Classical really isn't that complex, there might be a lot of preperation to it and a lot of people playing at the same time. But the end result isn't too great

Also, if you think these instruments all sound the same, please get ear dentures (ahha, what a silly though!) and just pray you can hear all this crap.
