Outside of 21st century hip-hop which is all about rims, gold teeth, and other materialistic BS

It's called "Lost in tha System", a rap done by Ice Cube's side project, "Tha Lench Mob". They made 2 records of race baiting material, but this one stood out as being seriously ignorant.

The story goes is that the rapper is driving, gets pulled over and arrested because he had 2 outstanding warrants for something. While in the jail, he beats down a guy who asks where he's from. He then stabs a white guy to death because he wanted to use the phone and because "he had the wrong skin color".

Anyway, he gets sent up and blames "whitey" for everything - his warrants, his belligerent attitude, his own racism.... everything.

Nice to know that when everything is your fault that it really isn't

I like Gangsta Rap, but this song as well as the album, was shallow racebaiting.

There's plenty of material on the streets without descending into the "get whitey" crap.

I'm black, BTW.

No wonder this has no airplay or, presumably, no following whatsoever.

First off you can't just stereotype an entire music genre with a sentence so detailed. Some songs are to show the cruel nature of the world, some messed up things that happen everyday, this might just be a song about that. In my opinion, rap and hip-hop are the most misunderstood genres of music.

The only thing I stereotyped was 21st Century hip-hop, which in my estimation, is materialistic crap that is killing the genre.

Isn't that a bit contradicting that you said you didn't stereotype the genre then said "I only stereotyped 21st Century hip-hop". But yeah, whether or not it's just a certain time period, it is still considered part of the genre.

Semantics are a tool of the pretentious.

And do you get upset when people classify classic rock, 60s rock, or 80s rock? Get off your high horse of sensitivity.

Excuse me if I came off as rude, didn't mean to. And I didn't seem to be semantic, in fact the only thing I had to define was that word, I just mentioned that the two sentences seemed to be a bit contradicting, I'm not arguing the meaning of specific words. And no, I do not get upset when classic rock is defined as 60's/80's rock. I mean, decades are fine, but you said a time period of a century, rather than just saying "recent" hip-hop, which I still disagree with, there are many great artists recently, Benefit, Immortal Technique, but I guess that is all opinion. I really shouldn't take hyperboles so literal. Apologies for making a bit of an attack, did not mean to.

Possibly.......

Or maybe the people who made that song realized that most of the people who listen to their kind of music are street thugs who aren't so smart and they just made up some random bs about white people so those thugs who buys the CD will have something they can relate to. Just a thought.

Well it isn't that ignorant. I'm sure in many cases they aren't treated fairly by the police, oh and if you didn't get the memo in jail your race is like your uniform.

I'm a African is claiming that couple of African-Americans are just plain African. In reality, they're very, very disconnected from Africa. Dead Prez is from Florida, not Ghana. My father has more of a connection with that continent than the duo.

Ohhhh! And I forgot another part of the song.

He mentions in the song that he almost got killed in prison by a "crazy devil with eyes full of hate" because he was about to get released. Didn't he just kill a white guy earlier in the song because he hated his skin color?

Wrong... dead wrong. The people who buy that are the same people who got Soulja Boy's Album because theydon't want tofeel excluded from the "black experience".

Honestly, all of you people who say rap is crap, I got a LONG list of rap artists you need to listen to before you make such a provocative claim. Here's a few of them:

Killah Priest

GZA

Nas

Eric B. and Rakim

Big Pun

Method Man

Redman

Ghostface Killah

Scarface

Cypress Hill

Bone Thugs N Harmony

AZ

Raekwon

Outkast

Common

A Tribe Called Quest

NWA

And while some of them may talk about violence, that's likely because its a large part of the life they lead. Deal with it.

Whats the point? Their way of thinking is one of the sole reasons gangsta rap exists. In actuality, their biased towards it is contributing to it.

Jesus christ is GS screwing up...

anyways, replying to the guy who quoted me.

I realize that trying to change the opinion of people is largely fruitless, but at least they should know that there is a hell of a lot of rap and rappers who don't limit their songs to bling and hoes...

And besides, mainstreamrap isn't just riding off of the controversy. There are some who actually enjoy it, not so much for its lyrical value but for its production/beat. You'd be surprised how many don't listen to the lyrics...

Respond again in English if you want me to take you even the least bit serious.

...? I do realize that he's a ban-dodger, but are a few non-capitalized letters and a one non-existent apostrophe going to kill you?

Someone chomping at the bit for an arugement or debate should make what they write as serious as their conviction to their stand. You can have an excellent point, but if you put it out there like a kindergartener, no one will take you seriously or even completely listen to what you have to say. It's like being served Filet Mignon in a used bedpan. It might be delicious, but you can't get past the crap.
