I'm not sure about the president, but Congress should have theirs at the national average. They are curently paid about $205,000 a year, and voted themselves a raise last year during what some say "The worst recession since the '30s". Crazy, huh?
EDIT- Or at least not be ableto give themselves a pay raise during a recession.
This idea is a no-go. I live in a small town of about 3,000 people, yet the mayor makes 100 grand a year, that's essentially a third of what the President makes.
No, the President's pay is fine, given the fact that people think one man can fix everything when the reality is you have 535 shysters in Congress controlling the money.
Also absurdly overpaid CEO's.If you're going to be making salary cuts, start with the absurdly overpaid people in the NBA/NFL.

Horrible idea to lower the presidents pay. 1: It makes him less likely to accept bribery if he has no personal financial woes. 2: He has a certain lifestyle that needs to be maintained. If he just left a private executive job as he enters presidency, there is no reason why he should leave his former lifestyle behind either, since his former lifestyle was what helped shape the man. Why change him, when you finally got your man in? 3: He carries the weight of the world on his shoulders, thinking that he has the same mind job to deal with on a daily basis as your local plumber is just absurd. A good president will be worth every penny.BiancaDKagreed. besides if he didnt get paid well, then it wouldnt be as desirable of a job and harder to get good candidates
[QUOTE="matisrock"]All major sports, actually. I've yet to see a good argument for this when it comes to sports salaries. If your a player on the market, and a team is offering you a huge contract to play, you take it. Their salary is determined by the demand. Fans outrage is hysterical, because they still go and buy the merchandise, tickets, concessions at the stadium, etc, etc and want the superstars on the team. Back to the question, I think the pay should remain where it is.If you're going to be making salary cuts, start with the absurdly overpaid people in the NBA/NFL.
