I don't think there even was a first machine. Borden knew of Tesla only from that brief show in London. He lied to Angiers that Tesla was the answer to his trick, just to toy with him. Meanwhile Tesla has a functional cloning device. :P

True. I do.t know.I thought it was just bad. No offenseI didn't really like the movie that much... I found the characters unlikable.
I don't think that Christopher Nolan is really good with characters... Inception's biggest flaw was the dull characters.

I don't think the characters are really supposed to be likeable. They are both jerks obsessed with outwitting the other; however, I found myself feeling for them anyway. It's more about the conflict between them than the developement of the characters. I think it's worth noting that Borden is even worse in the book, and not a sypmathetic caracter at all.I didn't really like the movie that much... I found the characters unlikable.

It's strange because Angier is the one with a family in the book.

So whats his best one?IantheoneAmerican Psycho That was a masterpiece Fair enough. I was expecting something like Batman :P I generally dont like him as an actor because of that weird growly thing he does with his voice. It really annoys me.
yuo should watch Empire of the Sun then, he has a nice prepubescent boy voice in that :P
Seriously, though, I think that is his best movie. American Psycho is a close second, with The Machinest in third (even though I didnt like it, his acting and immersion in that role was amazing)
i wondered about the tanks aswell why not just have the bodys burned?kbpyrokbOr chilled with them, they could be fun :?

don't give me any ideas, I'd love to have a clone.
i only saw it once and thought it was quite a good movie...the only problem is that it was on in the background while i was playing on my laptop.
i really do need to watch it again.
I remember watching the movie once and actually enjoying it a lot. I should watch it again. My family needs to watch it too!
when i watched the movie i just thought that borden used the machine to make frederick, then instead of killing him like hugh jackmans character does he just worked with him. shows how much i know...good movie regardless of how much i understood it lol, I got into a heated debate over the whole transfer of conciousness and how he suicides all the time etc, its really hard to wrap your mind around what exactly happens in the machine and it makes you think about what constitutes being alive. deep.Gator08Borden used Tesla's name as the "secret to his trick" to send Angier on a wild goose chase.
There were two Borden brothers (AKA Cutter was right the entire time, he used a double; his twin)
which is why he says at the beginning that nobody else can do his trick. This all leads back to the opening monologue about how "You're looking for the secret, but you won't find it because you're not really looking. You don't really want to know the secret. You want to be fooled." The entire thing is forshadowed near the beginning when Sarah's nephew sees the bird get killed, and Borden says "See? He's fine" to which he replies "But where's his brother?"
