Not really. Vasectomies, for instance, are a pretty much absolute way to avoid pregnancy while still having sex. Sure failures have been known, but the failure rate is less than 1%. At that point I'd say the arguments are getting rather pedantic.

Well I assumed the initial dude was talking about general population and not infertile or surgically altered...because that would be going into pedantic areas.

Even still, general birth control measures like condoms and the pill are near 100% (well, reaching percentages in the upper 90s) effective when used properly.

I didn't dispute that....but you know they aren't 100% so only one way to be sure and that is going without. Which does not mean to the other dude that I think people will either.

They are also immoral because they do not recognize a woman's right to her body. Here is great insight from Ayn Rand on abortion.

If you do not want women to get abortions then you hate life and freedom.

You should be allowed to have an abortion up to and including 10 weeks post birth. because sometimes, you really dont know what you're getting into until you actually do it.

?!?

Two things to be aware of with this post:

1) Sonic is rarely serious and often snarky.

2) He's quoting Lai.

Most people with an anti-abortion slant don't give a sh!t about the child after it is born. They only care about enforcing their religious views on people they don't even know.

There is only one possible and logical reason for having sex and that is reproduction.hoola

I disagree, a dichotomy like that oversimplifies the situation.  I don't believe there is any point before the actual birth where we can legitimately say this is life and it has rights, and before this it was not life.  Sperm is technically life, ovaraies are technically life, they don't go from being not life to suddenly being life simply because of conception.

I also disagree on this whole right to life. the fetus cannot operate on its own before birth.  Even if it can control most of its bodily functions near the end, it is still dependent on the woman to give birth successfully before it can operate as a truly independent biological organism.  Up until that point it is the mother's responsibility and therefore it is within her power to make her own moral decision on whether or not to have an abortion.  Of course, that the fetus can feel pain at certain stages should be taken into account, but that is where doctors come into play.  This is a decision that should be solely between a woman and her doctor, regardless of rape.  Really, although I disagree with the point of view the TC is arguing against, his argument still boils down to tu quoque.

To be fair, not everyone who is pro-life is religious (or vice versa), and not everyone who opposes abortion is pro-life.

There are extremely rare examples of that though. Most people who are vehemently against abortion generally source their opposition from a religious authority, or some "spiritual" source. Anyone who thinks it's their business what a woman does with her body and her unborn child is a really big assho!e.
