Quality-of-Life Index All 3 Scandinavian countries + Iceland are in the top 10, highest being Norway. They hold the 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th position. Scandinavia is badass.

Smaller population and one other thing. People are very active when it comes to sports in those countries. Get off your fat butt and engage in some activity instead of saying "dumb jocks ruined my life". Just pulling your leg OT about the quoted part but seriously doing sports is a positive for anyone obviously.

Also how is Costa Rica anywhere near the Czech Republic. Those countries are worlds apart as far I could tell from my personal experience.

Guess their government hasn't been taken over by corporate lobbyists like ours has. Good on them.

The UK is only 1.28% above Mexico and 14% below Ireland? BS.

Edit: Try Human Development Index.

Scandanavians have 4 places in the top ten, and the list actually looks credible.

HDI is even crazier. Norway is ranked first for 3 years in a row.

HDI is just a formula using other UN index's, and I'm inclined to believe those over The Economist.

Standard of living is a highly subjective thing. I live in pakistan and I dont have to worry about cleaning my room, my bathroom, washing my car, washing and pressing clothes. I dont have to cook food myself, ALL of these things are done by cheap labour something you can only dream about in europe. Just how valuable is cheap labour will vary quite significantly with individuals. You can also keep a driver for cheap if you want to.

I as a young individual will prolly enjoy life alot more in europe then here due to the infinite pros of living there instead of here but for old people who have enough money to pay for cheap labour will never enjoy themselves in europe so for them pakistan offers a higher standard of living!

True. That's one way of seeing things as the only people who will live like you are rich if they are living like that in Europe. On the other hand those things can be achieved fairly easily by most without needing somebody else.

Well actually I'd say that the middle upper class in the US and America does often have some people to do a big clean up of their homes every few weeks or something.

Its not all about you, the individual. I'm sure that cheap "labor" (as you call these people that take care of you) don't enjoy the same comforts that you do.

I have a hard time reasoning when people attempt to quantify what determines quality of life. I think they represent cultural ideas, and not necessarily much more than that.

No. It's based on the average. The people who are doing cheap labor for you. They don't hire people with even cheaper labor do they?

There are 9 factors that come into play, not just life expectancy. So if they have high suicide, their other factors must be really high too. Copenhagen, Denmark is awesome.

Look at the way they calculate and you'll see why. Latitude is used with countires closer to the equator ranking higher. Also divorce rate and church attendance is used which is why Ireland is so high (catholic country).

Church attendance corresponds to quality of life? :? Temperature depends on the person, I'd rather live somewhere cold than somewhere hot.

TBH the list is flawed, and the proof is in the rankings.

Edit: The difference between Ireland and the UK is the same as the difference between the UK and Egypt. Slightly more even...

Zeus isn't hardcore. He turned into a swan to have sex with a woman. What. Tor is so awesome he has a chariot pulled by two rams that he can EAT and then put the bones back into their skin and WHAM rams are alive.
