Billy Corgan is great. The band is not my favourite cup of tea, but when it is presented to me, I'll still drink it and enjoy it thoroughly.foxhound_foxI really liked that analogy ( and i don't say that often) that was an interesting way of putting your point.
Anywho, im surprised so many people have said yes, i didn't think they were that populare here.
Good, but I'd be hesitant to put them in the "best bands ever" category.UnrighteousFuryImo they are, and they truly rack as one of the best bands of all time. They may have not been influential but they still were/are fantastic.
Yea, although their really new stuff like Glow and Flo i don't like that much. Its sounds good but it really lacks emotion and soul, which was something Billy Corgan was known to do. But Zeitgiest was a pretty good album not their best but not as bad as most people make it seem.Hell yes.
And I don't mind the newer material that much either. The old I think is still a lot better and I enjoy it more though.

I like Smashing Pumpkins a lot. Had it not been for my physics teacher in High School I wouldn't have ever heard of them. :PTeenagedI would have never heard of them if it wasn't for my grade 9 geography teacher.:P He lent me Gish and I fell in love with their music.

Gish is so epic, its a jawdropping album. Amazing debut. To bad they didn't keep that psychedelic sound anymore.

Yea i agree, very good stuff (but there was 1 song i didn't like very much) The best of their new work was the Zeitgiest extra song content, Stellar is a very nice song.Hell yes.

Boring? Then who would you consider not boring?*yawn*
Boring. I would not consider them in "one of the best" catagories.

Yeah, just not my kind of thing, they're boring to me, but a good band nontheless.
I like to see you agreeing on my list, my favourites are NIN, APC, Air, Portishead and Zero 7. The rest I like to listen to now and then. :P

I used to be a long time ago, I like metal bands with nice vocals, I'm just not into the too extreme bands like Amon Amarth and such. I do like some thrash metal. :P

I've not been into them since a few weeks ago when I realized that a few of their songs are very good. Unfortunately, too many of their songs aren't to my taste. A few of their songs are really good though, and I could listen to those songs over and over again. Caddy06_88What songs might that be? Just out of curiosity.

If you havn't already you should check out Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Evergrey and Ayreon:P (Ayreon have a different vocalist on every song, ranging from Bruce Dickinson to Mikeal Akerfeldt, so they do occasinaly have harsh vox, there are plenty of songs with clean vox to:P)[QUOTE="mexicangordo"]What songs might that be? Just out of curiosity.Caddy06_88Rhinoceros, Drown, Cherub Rock (my favourite), Today, Disarm, Landslide, 1979. All reall nice songs, have you checked out Soothe? Its a lot like landslide and its my favorite acoustic song by them. Rhinoceros is also fantastic, the solo is very beautiful as is the psychedelic intro/bridge. Its a shame that you don't like their other work, they have many fantastic songs.
I love a few of their songs. I think Gish is a great album. I love the songs, Rhinocerous, Thru the Eyes of Ruby, Porcelina of the Vast Oceans and Drown. Jimmy Chamberlin is a great rock drummer...and Corgan had a knack for writing catchy songs and his guitar tone was awesome. I just can't stand Corgan's attitude and voice. Overall, the Pumpkins are "meh" in my book, in that I can take them or leave them. But, they did have a few great songs. StrawberryHillYea, Billy kinda does have an ego, but its due to the way he grew up and the way his so called hard core fans treat the music they make. Jimmy Chamberlin, imo, is the best modern day drummer, he's always been superb, i mean, geek usa had to have some of the best drumming. Also despite Billy's attitude, he wrote some of the best lyrics imo. They were very personal and poetic. His guitar work and solo's were also ahead of its time.

And Soma, both from Siamese Dream. Soma is a masterpiece of a song, it has to be one of the best songs of all time. The solo is epic, and the entire song has over 40 over dubs, thats just insane.

Its a great song, its right behind Mayonaise which is my favorite smashing pumpkins song, that song and Soot and Stars. :)
Never got in to them. You're missing a non-metal, non hating "I don't like their music" choice in your poll.albatrossdrumsThat would fall into number 2.
