They're great, but they wasted their talents on arguing and bad attitudes.

I like them, there's just a few songs I don't like by them. I don't get the appeal of Rocket at all.

I like Gish and Siamese Dream, but none of their other albumsclawwombat

There was some good stuff on Mellon Collie too but after that Billy Corgan's head disappeared up his own ass and they went downhill rapidly. I have a soft spot for Zwan though lol

I voted for the first option, but I don't know if I consider them "very good". I don't think I've listened to very many songs from them, though.

[QUOTE="Caddy06_88"][QUOTE="mexicangordo"]What songs might that be? Just out of curiosity.gameeer1
Rhinoceros, Drown, Cherub Rock (my favourite), Today, Disarm, Landslide, 1979.

Check Hummer out. And Soma, both from Siamese Dream.

Yeah, you just nailed my favourite SP songs right there. They're both amazing, Hummer is just mind-blowing. Although I do dislike Billy's self-centred attitude, you have to say he's a brilliant musician. I have a great deal of respect for Jimmy Chamberlin, the drummer, also an incredible musician, but much more down-to-earth imo.

Thats not what happened and they did not go downhill at all. They changed just like most bands do. They never did the same thing twice which made them that more respectable. What happened was, Billy became depressed again and the band began to argue a lot.

Imo, i wouldnt confuse arrogant with ambitious. Billy always wanted to make better and new music, even right now. But there fans don't like that, they just want to listen to their older songs which makes Billy very upset. This is why he gets mad at his fanbase, they just want the old without caring about the new.

Thats not true at all...

People hate Billy Corgan ever since they released Siamese Dream (there second album) The reason why is because Billy said they needed to make the best album they could or people will just think they are a nobody band. So he pushed himself and tried to push his band to make the best album they could. But his bandmates did not see it that way. They just wanted to make songs without the pressure of making something fantastic. Thus, it made Billy Corgan work by himself along with Jimmy, they recorded the whole album by themselves, and Billy was viewed as a Tyrant and arrogant for him taking charge of the whole album which, btw, is one of the best albums of all time, Siamese Dream.

The accusations only grew as the band progressed. Billy wanted to have the greatest band in the world and always pushed him self, which is why their next album was the Double Disc Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. People once again, criticized Billy Corgans personal lyrics, morphed his ambition to make better music into arrogance and greatly criticized the band. This is why Billy hates many critics because they have always greatly criticized all his music. Theres more to it but thats manly the over view of the whole thing.

Hmm...do you know more about billy than yourself? I hope not.

I think maybe though there is a blurred line in this between being arrogant and being egotistical, both of which most of the time come hand in hand, both of which i think billy is. I'm not saying its bad but lets be honest...what else but for ego food would anyone want to "make the best album ever" so they wont be viewed as another "nobody band".

Anyway i do enjoy smashing pumpkins. Their new stuff (the current reincarnation of SP) i think is a lame attempt to bring back the old and frankly just isnt taht good. Although i did see them here on their first reunion tour at Red Rocks and their new stuff was incredible live and of course the old stuff was bliss.

Well thats a silly statement, although i can easily say i look up to the man, his music greatly changed my life.

Ive said before, he does have an ego but he is not this tall arrogant "im better than the world" kind of guy that most people (even his fans) make him seem. He wanting to make the "best album" means he has an ego now? I guess me wanting to be the best "chef" makes me have a big ego as well, along with anyone else who sets their goals high and dreams big....

I like their new stuff, although I am not blind. I love the band dearly and i know bad music when i hear it. I like that he's moving on and and evolving. Thats a huge level of respect that most bands lose from their fans because they become this Karaoke box. Lets be glad that they wan't change and i honestly hope they make another album.

Ha yea i guess it was......

Having big dreams and goals doesnt scream ego no but having big dreams and goals for the recognition...thats for the ego. Again though i dont think thats bad at all. Everyone has an ego some let it drive them more than others and if it helps you succeed or drive for success then why not? But most rockstars get into the business to become big because they want the "women the drugs the money the house the (dare i say it) god like image" etc etc. Its just the life they choose nothing wrong with that as long as youre happy, but lets not sugar coat it.

Oh yes i def. hope they make another album. Not everyone can **** gold every time they go to the toilet right? Their new stuff isnt horrible but i think billy is just trying very hard (feeling around in the dark maybe?) for that next "siamese dream" type successful album while pushing the buondaries of what people expect or even want to hear from them. It def. has an old school pumpkins taste to it (the solos!! which still rock) but i dont think its the same emotion generating music im used to from them. His solo electronica esque album i think is another example but this i really dont like that much if at all, whereas the new SP (tarantulla and the like) i really enjoyed hearing and seeing played live more so than on album.

Ok now i agree with you.

When i said they didn't want to be a "nobody" band, they didn't want to be this mainstream robotic typical band. This is why Billy greatly mocked the Grunge movement in the early 90's. He thought they were all machines and didn't want to lose the band in the machine, that is why they stayed indie the entire time they released their first 2 albums. It wasn't until the surprise hit of Siamese Dream were the industry accepted them and wanted them to become a mainstream fad, and sadly to an extent, that did happen. That is why you get those people who always say, "yea i liked there first albums but the rest is crap."

I agree completely with you on your second statement. Like i said, im not blind, i know that their new material isnt as great as it could be, especially their new work. Thats the problem im having with them right now, their newer work sounds good (for the most part) but its lacking a lot of emotion and lyrical depth. Billy brought heavy emotion to his albums, he was praised for doing so but in their recent work, it seems like they are just "singing". They arn't meaning their lyrics, It really is missing some sort of spark. But seeing them live is fantastic, they are a very good live band.

I really hope Billy pulls through, infact i know he will. He doesn't have to make another Siamese Dream but as long as its a step foward from Zeitgiest, i will be satisfied.

[QUOTE="majoras_wrath"]Hate em. Not only is their music obnoxious to me, but Billy Corgan is a idiot. Frankly makes me embarrassed to be from the same city as him.mexicangordo
Thats a very harsh comment, care to at least explain why?

Billy Corgan seems to have one of those "god complexes" going. He is ego maniacal and controlling. I also can't stand his vocals, which strike me as whiny. The rest of the music isn't horrible, just kinda boring to me. I'm also sick of music about angst.

Good, but I'd be hesitant to put them in the "best bands ever" category.UnrighteousFury
Pretty much my take on them. :) They're a real good band, but they've slipped a fair bit. Although they're definitely among the best 90's bands.

I say, yay! Not a fan of all of the music, but for the most past I will listen to it.

Beh, i fine much irony from your post since you like Radiohead. But i respect your views on the band. :P
