Anyone have thoughts on the route they will take to defeat Thanos? There really isn't a lot of ways to stop someone who can kill everybody with the snap of a finger. At least not any that would make sense.

Leaked plot details, so take this as you will:

Ant-Man will come in with Pym technology that takes among the surviving Avengers through the Quantum Realm and into a parallel reality. The Avengers travel through an alternate reality and to snag the Infinity Stones in that reality before Thanos does. Various sequences will relive alternate versions of past events including the New York battle from the first Avengers.

Thor, Captain Marvel and Rocket are said to travel back to Nidavellir to forge the Infinity Gauntlet in that reality before Thanos does. The time which they go to Nidavellir is the time before Thanos killed all of the dwarves. Interesting detail in Infinity War: remember when Thor, Groot and Rocket made it to Nidavellir and among all the junk they find was a relic Infinity Gauntlet? I am now realizing where and who that might have come from...

Overall this leak sounds pretty legit and it would mean Avengers 4 is an inter-dimensional action epic where the surviving Avengers are racing to assemble their own Infinity Gauntlet before Thanos does in an alternate universe, take that Gauntlet back to the Infinity War reality and fight Thanos with equal power.

@jaydan:

Well a guantlet wielder is supposedly omniscient and omnipresent. So we'd need a reason Thanos wouldn't choose to stop them the instant the plan was conceived.

You ahve seen the movie, right?

The gauntlet looked pretty messed up at the end, besides I don't it gives Thanos all the same powers as in the comics.

I saw it and i did think something happened to his guantlet but i wasn't entirely sure, glad i'm not the only one who noticed that. Why do you believe it wont give him the same powers as the comics? If he can do the "finger snap" i'm inclined to think it does.

Because of the time budget in a movie to properly explain it and how the Avengers are supposed to come around it.

It's worth noting that the MCU is different from the comics, it is its own entity. While they say their stories are "ripped from the comics" they pick bits and pieces of different storylines to make things different. Stan Lee's intentions of a movie studio was to make a studio based on "action heroes." While the MCU will always be based off Marvel comics, I believe the MCU is going to take a life of its own, as in many ways it already does.

Consider some things that weren't explained in Infinity War will actually be explained in Avengers 4, including why the Gauntlet appeared to have roasted Thanos a bit at the end. I think one of the most important details people aren't talking enough about is how there was that relic Infinity Gauntlet when Thor, Groot and Rocket went to Nidavellir.

If story leaks are true, that relic Infinity Gauntlet was left behind by the Avengers from an alternate-dimension when they attempted to build their own Gauntlet. I'm pretty sure in the reality which Infinity War took place in, the alternate-dimension Avengers attempted but failed to complete the Gauntlet as it was left behind in the ruins of Nidavellir.

In Avengers 4 my current best bet on the plot is the remaining Avengers will scavenge through the different realities which Doctor Strange looked in, that best gives them the edge to collect the stones and Gauntlet before Thanos does.

@amillionhp: Allegedly Thanos will find out about this scheme and that will be largely the conflict of Avengers 4. One understandable complaint I've heard about Infinity War is why the movie starts out with Thanos already destroying the planet Xandar and obtaining the Power Stone. If leaks are true then in Avengers 4 we're actually going to see a major battle on the planet Xandar with the Avengers that leads up to Thanos destroying the planet, and that will make up for the fact it was never shown in Infinity War.
