Oh just to say the country that created this:
can never be the greatest. Bear in mind the Klan still exists today (though I believe the lynchings stopped just 30 years ago).

Because you thought that place was the best, spent all your money getting there, and didn't have enough money to go somewhere better. Or perhaps because elsewhere was too expensive in the first place. Switzerland has the highest quality of life of any country in the world.james28893
Switzerland is amazing. I've lived in a lot of places: Moscow, London, Paris and Montreal. For the last 5 years however, I've lived in Geneva. It is the only country where I wake up and actually tell myself "man, it's awesome to be here."

So if there's a tiny little problem that accounts for a negligible amount of the population, the country can not be the greatest? There are countries where EVERYONE is perfect?

Yes, because all other countries are free of race issues...

In my viewpoint patriotism and fear are so intense down there that there are citys were litterally everyone has a gun, afraid of another 911(sry to bring it up if anyone is sensitive about it), afraid of robbery, so much murder and rape on the news, so much talk of terrorists, afraid of social problems( the KKK still exist ppl), maybe it overshadows some of americas more immeidate problems like pollution and eating habits. a couple years ago McDonalds and walmart formed one of the biggest conglomerate packts ever, How does that not Scare you?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Development_Index
If you don't trust wiki thats fine, but this list is the same as the lists on other sites. Countries with the best standerds of living this year are:
1. Iceland
2. Norway
3. Austrailia
4. Canada
5. Ireland
6. Sweden
7. Switzerland
8. Japan
9. Netherlands
10. France.
from 2001-2006, Norway was number 1. The United states is number 12. Want me to find other proofs like Healthcare and such? No offense to the TC, but the U.S isnt number 1 and well you are wrong.

Never said they weren't. But the race issues in most other developed countries were far smaller than in America. Segregation for example lasted considerably longer in the US (especially the South).

It's the damn media. They take the smallest events and blow them so out of proportion it causes people who do not know, to believe these events are much more major than they really are.

You obviously dont live in America. Most people in this country talk about the Patriots losing, Gas Prices, Restaurants trying to ban people (I can't believe how many people know about this already), etc. etc.
Nobody here lives in fear. We try to use it as a political tool, on both sides (Either calling Republicans evil who will lead us to ruin, or republicans saying Iranians crap Enriched Uranium). And the news uses it for ratings (Read: All channels). Just because we are patriotic doesnt mean we are blind and fearful. I am proud of my countries achievements. Sure, we've done bad. So has every other country on this Earth. But we've made huge achievements. And for that i am proud and patriotic, and hope to continue making this country great. Nothing wrong with that.

Its called Canada. We are pretty perfect. We also have two(one being first) of the best cities in the world, according to the Times, States didnt even rate in the top ten.

that's what I hated when I stayed in the USA for a job last summer. I was there three months and it was like all the media tried to do was scare everyone. everyday there would be tons of stories of rape and murder and then they'd blow everything out of proportion, it made me feel really uncomfortable. to the point where I would be uneasy at night. maybe if you live in the States you're used to it, but when you come from a country with low crime rate like Canada it kinda freaks you out.

I persnally belive that the WTo exerts their influence over the media to draw attention away from themselves, but thats just my conspiracy talk.
Anyone notice how Scandinavia is usually high on the list when it comes to standerds of living and lots of other statistics. They must really be a great place to live, i have only been to sweden and it seemed great. Iceland being number 1 is cool, has anyone here been there? It looks stunning:)
I rather live in Canada.
I lived in the stats for 4 years and had a good time but I always loved my time in Canada more.
I'd rarther live in Canada. But i'm happy in Europe.
EDIT: http://www.nevillehobson.com/2006/07/31/the-worlds-happiest-country-is-denmark/
Four of the ten are Nordic countries (counting Iceland as Nordic). Six are in Europe. The Netherlands, where I live, scores 15. Better than the USA at 23, Australia at 26, the UK at 41 or France at 62.

I've no wish to live in any of those countries......top ten is subjective anyway.
I must have seen atleast 5 posts all apparently listing the 'best' countries in the world, and none of them have matched yet. The fact is, there is no greatest country in the world, they are all different and are all equally liked and disliked by many people. One person might like Japan more than Canada, another might like Africa more than Australia and USA more than France. Its ignorant to believe whatever country you like the most is the overall best.I'd rarther live in Canada. But i'm happy in Europe.

because you and TC are annoying... I live in a great country and Im secure in the fact that my country is a very good place to live. As all the other canadians and north Europeans are. Its just you Americans who feel the need to make an "America #1" thread every day.
I am aware that yuou dont represent the majority of Americans...
Meh....while the thread is a bit much, I have seen Canadians and Brits profess the same ideology.
