This is for all you males who are able to shave out there and females (for your legs and stuff) who plan on or already wetshave. Yes, the shaving technique used by our grandfathers that produce a closer and more relaxing shave. It's awesome and i highly recommend every male gives it a try for at least a month. This thread to is to talk about how awesome it is, as well as to answer any questions people have about this lost art.

I say you're not a man until you know how to wetshave. It makes the process of shaving so much more enjoyable. It's like manual transmission for your face. Which razor do you use?

I never have enough time to do it myself, but the barber I go to always does it for me. Probably my favorite day of the week.

I'd love to shave with a 'cutthroat' blade but the honing, the stroping and stuff, it looks like more of an hassle than anything else.

There are electric razors that let you wet shave. In fact unless your razor is old, cheap, or plugs to a wall you should be able to use it for a wet shave.
I don't own a proper razor; a bread knife usually works fine

I actually don't know how to wetshave :(
weird they like finer things when the long term use of wetshaving is cheaper than constantly buying 40$ fusion blades and creams in aerosol cans

I don't get it, do you just have to use water? Or do you have to use old timey shaving equipment like TC?

Anyways, I use a Gillette Fusion Pro Glide to shave. Man, it really does give a close shave, you should all buy it... What?... I'm not a being paid by Gillette!

I have wanted to try switching from a Gillette Fusion (very solid) to a straight razor for a while now, but dropping the cash on is the reason I'm holding off. I want to buy something worthy of my monies. Any recommendations?

Hmm, what will buy a decent kit? I'm not really loaded at the moment, but may hold off for a few months simply to get something worthwhile. I would prefer to not drop than $100-150.

hhmmm it might be hard to find sets online for under $150, so your best best is to buy individual peices, i would go for proraso cream, pure badger hair brush (dont cheap out and get boar hair, but no need to get silver tip badger hair), and start out getting a dovo shavette razor before you buy a good straight razor http://www.fendrihan.com/dovo-shavette-black-handle-p-307.html http://www.fendrihan.com/diane-blades-dovo-shavette-p-577.html http://www.fendrihan.com/proraso-shaving-cream-eucalyptus-menthol-p-365.html?cPath=116_10_37 http://www.fendrihan.com/classic-pure-grey-badger-shaving-brush-black-handle-p-959.html?cPath=116_3_39

I didn't really start shaving until I was 17, I think. I know it was near the end of junior year when it started looking scruffy and I had to get rid of it.

That first shave sucked. Bad.

If you were using a straight razor, it'd be pretty impossible to unless you put the blade perpendicular to your skin.

I have a full beard but if I didn't I would definitely use a straight razor. I love the feeling. My barber used to use one on the back of my neck, cheeks, and under my beard. It's great.

I just use foam and a Gillette Mach 3 - does that count? My father has the whole brush and foamstick set-up but that has always seemed a bit more hassle than is necessary. A cut-throat does have a certain Olde Worlde cachet, but I would only end up doing myself an injury :)

I'm afraid not (I came into the thread thinking the same thing), but I suppose I'll give this wetshaving business a try. After reading an article about it just now, it actually sounds... Well, sensible.
