The X-Files ending was so bad no one even remembers it enough to mention it. St. Elsewhere's ending was a ludicrous jumping of the shark, yet nearly the same ending worked 1000x better for the sitcom Newhart; go figure.xaosYah I just posted the X-Files, it was a total let down. I followed the show since the start. I remember all the hype leading up to it (lol fox had the count down meter going on the final night), all I could say was, by the end the episode I felt ripped off. They left everything open, they didn't care to explain anything or give any sense of closure. ohhh were back at the hotel just like we were 9 freakin seasons ago, disappointed doesn't even begin to explain how I felt. Not to mention then newest movie (saw it in theaters a few years ago) was terrible, bah. Chris Carter is a jerk.

I loved the Sopranos ending

When did you get around to watching it? I remember talking to you before the six season of LOST started and you hadn't had watched it then.
I actually have not seen all of the show, just bits and pieces but I did watch the finale and loved the way it went out. My mom was freaking out [QUOTE="sammyjenkis898"][QUOTE="Ultrabeatdown55"]

some data about alf's ending... the show was not supposed to end there, it was going to be continued, the producers had an unofficial deal with NBC to make one last episode but NBC never did anything so it "ended" in a cliffhanger. but theres a movie that DOES ends the series: project alf...it waesnt very famous and its not very good either but it at least puts an end to the serielightleggy
But in the Cracked article they went on to say that even THAT ending is horrible as Alf ends up all alone or loses his memory or something...
Anyways, I will just make the general statement that I seriously dislike any show ending that suddenly takes the show from comedy to nothing but sad crap i.e. Rosseane, ALF, and Dinosaurs.
Deadwood
For those that remember this great showtime series then you would know how tensions were set to a boiling point towards the finale, the stage was set for mass murder, and justice had to be served. What happened instead was the finale consisted of people moving out of the town, no epic shoot out, no explanations, just a very weak closing.

Actually, I liked the Dinosaurs ending.
It's a show called "Dinosaurs", and it is about dinosaurs. It really only makes sense that they all end up dead.
But did you even see the way it was done? I mean you have the dad Dinosaur sitting there apologizing and whatnot for bringing an end to the world! No comedy there at all....

*shrugs*
Even Weeds and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air had their serious moments that were not intended to be funny.
When Will Smith starts crying while saying "why doesn't my dad want me?", and the episode ends like that, that is what it is. Sure as hell wasn't funny, but I'd wager that it was one of the better episodes of the series.
Beyond that, I'd still say that the series final of Dinosaurs was "darkly humorous", in the way that the end of the Dinosaurs happened. But shift in tone or not, it was what it was. And furthermore, the whole series was never really that good to begin with.
I've never really stuck with any series from beginning to end besides the Sopranos, so you can imagine my disappointment. But to bring up another question, is there really ever a 100% satisfying end to something you follow that closely? I feel like after investing so much time in a series and following the story to the finale, it's almost impossible to end a show in a way that's going to please everyone.
well we are about to see if Lost has a terrible finale. I hope it doesnt and i dont think it will, unless they do some out of left field thing and aliens end up coming in, which if that happens i will hate that show forever. This is the only series i have ever actually watched in real time so i cant really comment. Never been a big tv or movie fan.
I've noticed a trend in television series to go on too long and then, have rather anti-climactic or sucky endings. What do you think is the worst of all time? A few contenders to the throne that I can think of to include: 1. The Sopranos 2. The Dead Zone 3. Seinfeld 4. Highlandernocoolnamejim
That's just too easy to beat:P
ALF - in the first episode it turns out that if ALF was ever captured by Government they would quote: "torture, experiment and dissect him" After the humorous 100 episodes, in the season finale, guess what happens? Air Force does catch him.
The screenwriter was a son of the devil.

yeah in project alf, alf gets rescued when he is being tortured but he still says that he doesn't remember the tanners, and then the military say that the tanner were send to live to iceland on a fricking iglooNewhart's and MASH's finales were satisfying.I've never really stuck with any series from beginning to end besides the Sopranos, so you can imagine my disappointment. The Sopranos for sure.muller39I actually like how it just cuts with no closure, leaving the viewer just unfulfilled. I guess that is a bad ending in a lot of peoples eyes

Agreed, of course. I don't think a series can have a more fitting conclusion.[QUOTE="Ultrabeatdown55"]Just something cool, I saw James Gandolfini in a gas station in NJ where I live. My Guess is it's all either an autistic kids dream/mental patients hallucination, or aliens/ghosts did it.
I don't think it's possible to give a series like lost an ending that won't piss people off.

I don't see how Newharts was satisfying "This series never happened, and even in the context of this show, the characters you love never existed. THE END!" wasn't satisfying to me. It made me feel like the series had wasted my time.

Since it was just a fluffy sitcom to begin with, I for one was never at all invested in the characters or laugh line-driven stories, so finding out it was all a dream was fine by me, and I thought the ending was a pretty brilliant way way out of the box ending for the show; I mean having it be a side story to the original Bob Newhart Show? That's chutzpah, IMO[QUOTE="htekemerald"]Really? What didn't you like exactly? The part where they took every good idea and threw it out the window.Battlestar Galactica.

and one of the first rule of science fiction writing is an adam and eve plot has been done before and it has been done better. Don't try it.
and the number of copouts in the finale is more than I could count.
