Yeah, but this is where the possiblity of a soul is possible, of substaining that energy. Heck the energy could even be self-sustaining and in that sense could possibly even be the soul. There is a distinct possiblity there is a afterlife, and I still don't like you :).

blooddemon666

the idea of a soul is a metaphysical idea that humans have come up with. there is no proof that a soul actually exists.

You are incorrect as some have already pointed out.

Does anyone else not want there to be an after life? I really do not.

Ninja-Hippo

You're happy with the idea that you could just cease to exist one day? :?

Why yes I am. If I die then it would not really bother me because I would be dead. If there is nothing after this life , then how would that affect me ? I would die happy. I do not want to die , but do not see why an afterlife is so important.

Absolutely but that is still closed minded thinking. If noone thought outside the box we would still live in caves. -R3Vo

I am open to the belief in it if the evidence is discovered. How is that close-minded?

All theories were made up by humans :| -R3Vo

As are all religious beliefs and doctrines. Scientific theories are based off of observable or provable evidence.

-R3Vo

What energy? :? When you die you're simply a big pile of matter. Any energy is transered by bacteria, bugs, whatever, eating and digesting you.

Let's have this discussion again when you're not just randomly speculating about self-sustaining invisible energy that carries representations of physical matter.

Lol @ invisible, just not visible to the human eye, energy can be seen with the proper scopes. I don't see where randomness comes into play either, oh well not as if I care that you wallow in ignorance in every post :\.

Yes, energy can be seen throughout the spectrum, it can be observed using a bunch of different techniques.. the same cannot be said about your soul idea. ;) And it is random because there's nothing to suggest the idea of a soul, it was just randomly invented by some guy a couple thousand years ago. It's unprovable it has no basis, it's just crap. And insulting me isn't going to make your argument more profound. Nice try anyway.

scientific theories can be supported by a reasonable amount of data. for example, the theory of gravity, the theory of evolution.

But mystical speculation can't be supported by any evidence. Its just wishful thinking.

And they're also supported by evidence. That's how science works. :o Crazy, I know, but it's true.

No i agree with you entirely. I've always said in response to after-life questions "if there is great, if not, i'm dead... so who cares?"

Your original post said you didn't want there to be an afterlife though. I thought that was odd. People either think there is, there isn't, or they dont care. It's rare that someone will actually wish there isn't one.

Actually, the idea of the soul stems from mostly the idea of an eternal "self" that transcends reality and allows people to believe that they can live forever. Most ancient cultures came up with the same idea because of our human tendency towards the attempt to hold onto something static or permanent.

Well I really do not want one. I lived a good life and all that , and will continue too. I do not think the afterlife well be eternal happiness or something along those lines, so I would much rather just cease to exist.

I have pondered this, but it all depends what you want it to be. It's kinda hard to think that you won't exist after your death, considering that you won't be able to see, feel, thing, hear, taste, smell once your dead. It will be an endless blackness except you won't see black.

It wont be endless blackness though. It wont be anything as you wont experience anything, as you'll be dead.

[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"]Why must there be an afterlife? Why can we not just life our lives to the fullest now, appreciate them for what we get and then just die happy? Why must we concern ourselves with what may or may not come after?Ninja-Hippo

There must be an afterlife because I really really really want there to be one. Therefore the afterlife exists.

Not too difficult to work out.

Can you really, really, really want elisha cuthbert to appear in my room?

Sure, but once she gets there she's just going to walk on out. Elisha Cuthbert is no one's whore!

That's a cucumber, and you should really keep it in the fridge, it's gone all bad just sitting there on your dresser.

I honestly don't care about after life.. If anything I hope I am changed into a different from of being or something that doesn't transfer my memories.. In the end to live for enternity even in paradise would be a curse.

I don't really care if there isn't one, and if there is one, I'm not going to constantly bugger on about it either. If it's there it's there.

Believe what you want.

When i was little i used to think about what would happen when you die. It sorta scared me to. If you do get reincarnated, then how does it happen? If there is a heaven and hell then how do you get there?

I also thought about what would happen when the world ends. Would we have discovered a way to live on other planets? would humanity live on? If not what would happen if you died then? Would you just live in heaven or hell for eternity?

Surely there must be a proper answer out there...

There is a possibility but there is no evidence to support it. The evidence we have points very strongly to us rotting in the ground after we die.

What are you talking about there is not a shred of evidence pointing towards a soul.

Yeah, kind of hard to be in two places at once....
