Just came back from our New Zealand holiday, it was great but these things i really didn't understand at all.

  1. Separate taps for hot and cold water. Coming from Australia i think this was the most stupid thing i have ever come across. You want warm water? ok! just burn your hand with the hot tap and cool it down with the other one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nP1vjrHl3mo&feature=related it must be an english thing.

s

2. One lane bridges. it's acceptable in really mountainous areas, but this?!

br

It's just cheap and really impractical.

Post any others you have. they can be about other countries aswell.

Not all taps are like that, just the older ones. Its the same in most countries, at least is in England. Also thats the road to hell, its only one lane because there is no way back.

I had a teacher come from New Zealand. Sadly i have no idea where it is located so i don't know what is weird about it. My teacher said they could drink earlier or drive or something.

My gripe with New Zealand: They currently are blessed with the presence of D3nnycrane and they do not even know it. That whole damn country should worship the ground that makes walks on. Women clothes should become ash the second they see him, then they should launch themselves into his arms. And men, every New Zealand man, should feel inadequate at the very mention of his name - and when in his presence should kill themselves.

We went to two family-friends houses and around 7 h/motels on our trip, only 2 motels had proper mix taps.

Well. I live in NZ. As for the taps, like others have said, seperate taps are just older. We have seperate taps in our downstairs bathroom and a mixed tap in our upstairs one (the extension was built onto the house some years ago) As for the bridge - you wouldnt think that would be a bridge for cars, what with the train tracks going right through it. If it is a one way car bridge. NO WAIT. I just came up with a theory. It USED to be a train bridge but trains no longer use it so they turned it into a one way car bridge. Its only one way because its in an area with very little traffic so building another lane would be a complete waste of time and money. There you go.

Last december (as in last month) was a lot cooler than usual I thought. Pretty sunny though, and usually its a pleasant kind of temperature. But the weather is pretty bad for summer right now. Still warm though. Warmest in february usually.

The weather was great, a lot cooler than Australia (we avoided the entire heatwave during our holiday)

On our way to Milford Sound we went through at least 20 of these one lane bridges, and Milford Sound is one of the biggest attractions New Zealand has, and gets a LOT of tourists.

I'm in love with New Zealand and have been for the last ten years.I'd gladly take the hot and cold taps, the one-lane bridges, and lack of interstates if I could live there on a permanent basis. I just wish it were easier to maintain employment there as a software engineer -- which is sadly the one prohibitive aspect that keeps me from making that change.

New Zealand is not that different from other British colonies. Bridges like that are all over the country, and all it requires is looking down to see if another car is coming. I have been on one of those train-car bridges, and the fact is that you're more likely to crash the car somewhere else than get completely annihilated by an oncoming train. The weather is very mild, but the high, often 100% humidity in the summer makes up for that, and it can be pretty hard to bear sometimes.

I'm a New Zealander and we have single taps as well, all the taps in my house are single ones so you must of just stayed in older places and the one lane bridges are only in country areas and most are very short.

You can get your learner drivers license when your 15 which means you have to have someone who has had they're full license for two years or more with you and you can buy booze when your 18.

Interesting. I've been in many places in Europe but never came across such a water tap system. Then again I've only been on the mainland. The bridge... it seems like an area that isn't too heavily trafficked.

Yeah. The part you turn never gets hot; you'll only burn yourself if you press your hand on the part where the water runs through.
