Well...honestly in Japan at least the practice is dying out as the government has been stressing for quite a few decades that adopting the Western system is the way to go but I believe it's still used commonly in Korea and in China they typically list both ages for the traditionalist and the modern folks.

I was just pointing out that different countries have different views. Like how some here see this age of consent thing in Japan as "creepy", but those in Japan may think of some of our practices as creepy or corrupt or what not.

It happens, but it's not common.

Japans society and societal constructs are different from the US. I'm sure there are many things westerners do that Japan would frown on. But Japan isn't under US or EU law and can do as it pleases. There are many laws in the world I don't agree with. Japans age of consent isn't really high on my list.

My grandma is 100% Japanese...and very strange.
